ZAMBIA's LOW VISION COMMUNITY URGED TO THRIVE DESPITE CHALLENGES

People with low vision across Zambia have been encouraged to take an active role in contributing to the country's growth.

Speaking at the Low Vision Services at Kitwe Teaching Eye Hospital this morning, Head Clinical Care Dr Fred Mubyai emphasized the importance of individuals with low vision being productive and playing a valuable role in their families.

Dr. Mubyai highlighted the potential of people with low vision to make significant contributions to society, despite their visual impairment.

He encouraged them to explore opportunities, develop their skills, and participate in various activities that can benefit their communities.

Mwango Sileta, a low vision patient, shared her emotional journey after her life took a dramatic turn in 2010.

Following four months of complete blindness and undergoing four surgeries, she regained some sight but was left with 27% vision.

Despite this challenge, Mrs. Sileta encourages fellow patients to follow medical advice and adapt to their new circumstances, finding ways to navigate and thrive in their new reality.
