COPPER QUEENS VS SENEGAL – WAFCON SHOWDOWN

Zambia faces Senegal in a crucial Group A clash at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. After a 2–2 draw with hosts Morocco, the Copper Queens must regroup to stay in control of their quarterfinal hopes.

What’s at Stake?
Senegal, fresh off a 4–0 thrashing of DR Congo, will qualify with a win. Zambia must avoid defeat to keep their fate in their hands ahead of their final group game.

Key Battles
Senegal’s danger woman, Mama Diop, netted twice and thrives on space. Zambia’s keeper Ngambo Musole struggled with long shots—should Coach Norah consider Catherine in goal?
Tactically, Zambia must fix their midfield gaps exposed in the 3–4–3 against Morocco. Relying on Racheal Kundananji and Barbra Banda’s link-up will be key to unlocking Senegal’s backline.

WAFCON Format Recap:

Top 2 teams in each group + 2 best third-placed teams reach quarterfinals.

Goal difference could be crucial.

Zambia’s To-Do List:

1. Avoid defeat vs Senegal.

2. Win at least one of the remaining two games.

3. Mind the goal difference.

Can They Do It?
Zambia has never lost to Senegal, but this is a stronger, faster Senegal side. The Copper Queens need discipline, sharpness, and belief. The road to the quarters is still open — but only for the bold.

There is a growing concern in society about how we address the behaviors of boys and girls differently.

Sometimes, when a girl begins to live a lifestyle far beyond what her family can afford, instead of holding her accountable, society rushes to justify it—calling it independence or empowerment. But when a boy is involved in suspicious behavior, he's quickly judged and often labeled negatively without benefit of the doubt.

Take this example:

> A girl might dress in a revealing way, showcasing her body in the name of "fashion" or "freedom." But if a boy makes a comment or expresses interest—even respectfully—he may be accused of sexual harassment.

This double standard is dangerous. We must raise both our sons and daughters with the same values of respect, responsibility, and dignity. Wrong is wrong—regardless of gender. And just as we call out inappropriate behavior in boys, we must also be willing to correct our girls when they cross the line.

Parents, watch your girl child closely when she begins to live a lifestyle you know you cannot afford. Please, sit her down and find out what she's doing. Guide her with love and wisdom before it’s too late.

Mining and agriculture are both important to Zambia’s economy, but when we compare them from the perspective of ordinary citizens, agriculture is the more empowering and inclusive path. Mining is a capital-intensive industry—it requires huge investments, specialized machinery, and often foreign partnerships. Even when Zambians own shares in mines, the benefits rarely trickle down to everyday people. Mining is also unpredictable, heavily dependent on global metal prices and complex policies. In contrast, agriculture gives power to the people—families can grow food, sell produce, and create small agro-businesses from their backyards. It doesn’t take billions to start a farm; it takes land, inputs, and commitment.

Yet, today, fertilizer costs like K900 for a 50kg bag of urea or K750 for D-Compound are pushing farming out of reach for many. If every household had access to affordable inputs and small plots, Zambia would be stronger and more food secure. So here's the question: When the global economy shakes and mines shut down, will your family have food to eat—or will you regret not investing in farming today?

Did you know
Zambia’s government spends about US $1.2 billion per year on petroleum imports—roughly US $100 million each month. At a current rate of around K23.66 per US dollar, that’s about K2.37 billion monthly. With pump prices near K31.36/litre for petrol and K25.12/litre for diesel, and considering pipeline transport via TAZAMA now carries finished diesel—cutting transport costs by about **60 %** —and bigger projects like the proposed Lobito–Lusaka and Tanzania–Zambia product pipelines underway , Zambia faces a major fuel-tab each month. **Should we upgrade Indeni or shut it and rely more on pipelines like TAZAMA or Lobito–Lusaka, expand biofuel blending (which could save ~US $100 million yearly) , or massively invest in solar and renewables?**

Dangote Accepts President Chakwera’s Invitation to Explore Investment in Malawi

Africa’s richest man and the world’s wealthiest Black individual, Aliko Dangote, has responded positively to President Lazarus Chakwera’s invitation to explore investment opportunities in Malawi. With a net worth of US$23.8 billion, Dangote expressed gratitude for the warm gesture and revealed plans to assess potential ventures in the mining and manufacturing sectors.

“I have accepted Your Excellency’s invitation to visit Malawi, and I will visit you soon,” Dangote confirmed. “I will assign the Group Chief Executive Officer to serve as the point of contact and work with the Malawi team to explore areas of investment in mining and manufacturing, particularly in cement.”

The development signals a potential boost for Malawi’s economy as it looks to attract major investors and enhance its industrial capacity.
