COSAFA CHAMPION AND NATIONAL PLAYER PLEADS FOR FOOD AND RENT ASSISTANCE TO SAVE HER 84-YEAR-OLD GRANDMOTHER
By Idah Banda Musakanya
At just 17 years old, Lydia Shamalime, a rising star in Zambia’s under-20 national football team and a COSAFA champion, is fighting a battle far tougher than any match on the field. Behind her triumphs and accolades lies a heartbreaking struggle to provide for herself and her 84-year-old grandmother, the only family she has left.
Both of Lydia’s parents passed away years ago, leaving her as a double orphan in Lusaka’s Chainda Compound. Despite her relentless dedication to her team and her dreams of a brighter future, Lydia’s life off the pitch is a daily fight for survival.
With tears streaming down her face, Lydia revealed the harsh reality of her life: “Every month-end, I beg for help just to pay rent and buy food for my grandmother. I want to take care of her, but it feels like my efforts are never enough.”
Her story is one of resilience and heartbreak. While she pours her heart into football, hoping it will be her ticket to a better life, the weight of poverty threatens to crush her dreams. Lydia’s courage in speaking out about her struggles is both inspiring and risky, as some may view her openness as a threat to her career. But for her, this is not just about football it’s about survival.
TV brought Lydia’s story to light, urging the public and humanitarian organizations to step in and support this young athlete and her elderly grandmother.
If you can help, please reach out to the IdahCh Humanitarian Crew at +260 975 778 379. Together, we can ensure that Lydia’s talent and determination are not overshadowed by the weight of poverty.

THANK YOU SIR FOR SPEAKING FOR ME BY KEBBA CEESAY..
See we Africans need to do better and stop begging which made us lazy, less creative and not-hardworking, for all we do is ask for handouts, it’s terrible …
It went to a point where begging is normalised in our society which is extremely bad, shameful and disgusting…In fact people are so entitled that when they beg you didn’t give them they become angry. What is more unacceptable than this..
We have all these natural resources more than the west including manpower and younger population but we continue begging begging begging, when will that stop?
Trump had to stop it and many folks are angry about it, very embarrassing… We must change our mindsets, be independent and responsible for ourselves, have pride and dignity! Let our leaders go to work rather than being dependents, hence no one respects us, we are either begging China, USA, Russia, Saudi and many more, damn!!
Africans and African leaders must do better my friends…
