To the family of our late President, His Excellency Edgar Changwa Lungu, my heart goes out to you, and I extend my condolences. May the Lord comfort your hearts as you mourn your beloved one.
I would like to offer my perspective on the unfortunate misunderstanding between the sitting government and the family of our late president of Zambia.
Beyond politics, His Excellency was a good man who was loved and cared for by many Zambians. He inspired young men in his career path and had a significant impact on their lives. His Excellency was not just a president of the PF; he was a pivotal figure in our country, and that fact cannot be changed by any political differences.
His legacy transcends the divisions that exist today between political parties. It is essential for both the family and the sitting government to recognize that politically you all are replaceable but our late President’s name will continue to shine and resonate with the people of Zambia.
Despite his flaws, he was one of us; he was our leader. None of our African leaders have ever been perfect, yet they all fulfill the role of a politician, and his excellency is not different, so don’t deprive him of the celebration he deserves from his people due to personal or political disagreements.
To the family of our late President, do not let hate, pain, and grief detract from what His Excellency truly deserves: love and respect from those who cared for him.
Do not deny a poor citizen of Zambia, who genuinely believed in ECL, the opportunity to express their wishes for him simply because of the anger surrounding political affiliations. While we appreciate the importance of his wishes per your story, it is clear that His Excellency would have wanted to be laid to rest among his people, the PF family, his dedicated supporters, and the street vendors who proudly displayed his image and believed in his leadership.
We cannot dictate how you mourn your beloved one, but ECL was not a regular man, we kindly ask that you reconsider the decisions being made, as His Excellency belongs to the soil of Zambia and was loved by many Zambians away from Toxic Politics.
To the sitting government, embracing peace is imperative. What is done cannot be undone. While laws exist, the circumstances surrounding our late President's death are complex and cannot be resolved through force.
Allow the family to bring in the body as they see fit. If they request no government involvement, that is their right. Provide them with the necessary security, but let them bury their beloved one in peace and according to their wishes. It will only take a day.
One Zambia, one nation. We are a peaceful country, and may your differences remain political while we ground ourselves in our humanity.
Your Excellency May your soul rest in Peace.
