Kitwe police detain "crooked" PF councilor

POLICE in Kitwe have arrested and detained Patriotic Front (PF) Councillor for Ndeke Ward Aaron Lungu for obtaining money by false pretenses.

This is not the first time Lungu is being arrested over a similar offence.

Copperbelt Police Commissioner Charity Katanga said Lungu last July allegedly obtained K40, 000 from a Steven Bwanga of Cha-cha-cha in Kitwe on the pretext that he was selling a residential plot in Ndeke when in fact not.

"Complainant paid the amount in full but he was not shown the same plot despite several reminders," Katanga said.

"However, the Councillor kept on giving the Complainant some fake assurances and after all efforts to either get a refund or a piece of land, he decided to report the matter to Buchi/Kamitondo Police Post were a docket of the case was opened and the Councillor has since been arrested and detained at Buchi Police Post," Katanga revealed.

Zingalume residents lose faith in police, vow to arm themselves against "Ghost Gassers"

RESIDENTS of Lusaka’s Zingalume Township have vowed to take the law into their own hands saying they have lost faith in the Zambia Police Service.

The residents have told Diamond News that they are having sleepless nights because of criminals terrorizing the area.

One of the residents Amos Hantebe has demanded that the police explain to them where they have taken the alleged team of people gassing some houses.

The group is alleged to have been masquerading as health workers at one of the lodges in Zingalume.

On Thursday some residents of Zingalume damaged one of the lodges in the area on suspicion that some suspects in the gassing scheme where lodging there.

Mob burns Lusaka man, beats another to death over gassing suspicions

A MAN of Lusaka has been burnt while another has been beaten to death by a mob in Kanyama on suspicions of trying to gas houses in the area.

Police spokesperson Esther Katongo has confirmed the separate incidents that happened in the early hours of today.

"In the early hours of today, 12th February, 2020, Police in Kanyama Compound in Lusaka received information that members of the public in the area apprehended two suspects and that a mob descended on them, beating one to death while the other one was rescued by Police Officers on Patrol.

It is alleged that the suspects were seen spraying an unknown chemical through a partially closed window at some flat in the area and when the occupants called for help, members of the public caught the suspects who are alleged to have run away from the scene.

Mary Chileya a grade 9 pupil at Natwange High School in Kitwe's Chimwemwe Township, went to school on 7th February, 2020 and since then she is no where to be found.

She was last seen clad in a school uniform (white checked shirt and green skirt). The family would like to humbly request the general public with information regarding her whereabouts to call:
