Cops round up 2 foreigners over K520, 000 theft in Chingola
A ZIMBABWEAN and South African are currently accessing free accommodation behind bars for stealing K520,000 from a Chingola businessman's vehicle
POLICE apprehended 53 year-old South African, Edwin Khanye and Zimbabwean, Thembi Dube, aged 40 while their accomplices managed to flee.
Copperbelt Province police commanding officer, Mwala Yuyi confirmed in a statement to ,that the incident occurred yesterday around 11:30 hours.
He said that the suspects stole K520,000 from a motor vehicle belonging to Nicky Zhu, 29, of Fallen Mining Company in Chingola district.
"The incident occurred at Megaegg Company, where the victim had left the money on the front passenger's seat."
"The suspects had been trailing the victim from FNB Bank where he withdrew the money from, broke into the vehicle and stole the cash while the motor vehicle was parked," Yuyi explained.
The money was reportedly meant for the workers' salaries.
After the security officer at Megaegg company noticed the theft, he tried to stop the suspects by firing a gunshot at their getaway vehicle, causing it to lose control and forced the suspects to abandon it.
" Khanye is of house number 1181 Libala South in Lusaka and house number 2554, Mkhale Street, Rusternburg in South Africa. The same was found loitering in the nearby bush near the abandoned Motor vehicle."
" Later, another suspect, Dube jumped on a bus going to Lusaka and suspicious members of the public pounced on him and handed him over to the police," the Commanding officer disclosed.
Yuyi said the motor vehicle was searched and a separate pair of a number plate was recovered bearing the number CAH 6743 ZM.
A rivet gun for fixing number plates was also recovered, while the money was not.
He said that the other two suspects, Zonke Nyoka and Richard Dubuzi, both Zimbabwean nationals, are still on the run.
Yuyi said that a manhunt and investigations are underway.
