NATIONAL COUNCIL FOR STUDENTS UNIONS WARNS AGAINST STUDENTS INVOLVEMENT IN LUNGUS ELIGIBILITY CASE
By Beatrice Chabaya
The National Council for Student Unions (NACOSU) has warned students against participating in the former President Edgar Lungu's eligibility case, scheduled to be heard by the Constitutional Court tomorrow, December 10th, in the name of universities and colleges.
In their address today, UNZASU Secretary General Chisha cautioned that students should not be affiliated with politics in the name of the institutions they represent, further emphasizing that their focus should be on academics.
He condemned the alleged plans by some politicians to use students to further their “selfish agendas” stating that this would undermine the integrity and moral standing of institutions of higher learning.
And NACOSU strategic advisor Vincent Sakala emphasized that the students union respects the courts and will not tolerate anarchy or any attempts to intimidate judges or tarnish the reputation of the judiciary.
“we discourage students from participating in any protests or demonstrations because such actions could have negative consequences on their education”, he said.
The student leaders also called upon law enforcement agencies to ensure that anyone causing unrest at the court grounds is dealt with according to the law.
Meanwhile, ministry of information permanent secretary Thabo Kawana has called on the general public to avoid overcrowding the courts as the the proceedings will be on going.
He said that since the proceedings will be broadcast live, people should just watch from the comfort of their homes.
“Moreover even the courts can only accommodate so much people, and because it has been put out there for even other media houses to tap from those who will be streaming, there’s no need for people to crowd the courts”, he said.https://www.kopalamusic.live/
