NAMILANGU (NAMUCHILA)
THE SACRED CHAMBER

This is the royal chamber within Lumpasa. It is strictly out of bounds to non-royals, except for royal ritual officiants.

Namilangu in Lumpasa was founded and marked with a stone by the founding Mukuni Mulopwe and hence it is the most important house within Lumpasa Palace. This means the Namilangu and Lumpasa cannot be relocated. Its refurbishment has to be completed between sunrise and sunset of the same day, after which it is blessed using water from the belly of the Zambezi river. The poles supporting the entrance are put in place only by Katandamwanda.

Traditionally, it is in Namilangu where, at dawn, Mukuni is censured for his daily omissions or commissions by Be-Dyango, the Tribal Chief Priestess and Matriarch
