Nkombo Opts Out of UPND Mazabuka Central Race

Veteran politician Gary Nkombo has not applied for adoption to recontest the Mazabuka Central parliamentary seat, creating uncertainty over his political future after nearly two decades in office.
Nkombo, a long-serving member of the United Party for National Development, joined the party in 2002 from the Movement for Multi-Party Democracy and was first elected as Member of Parliament in 2006.

Over the years, he rose to become one of the party’s most prominent figures and played a notable role in the campaign that led to the election victory of President Hakainde Hichilema in the 2021 general elections.

His decision not to seek re-adoption for Mazabuka Central has sparked discussion within political circles, as he has been a consistent representative of the constituency for several terms and held key positions in government and party structures.

Two youths from Livingstone’s Dambwa area have been apprehended after being found with suspected high-grade cannabis wrapped around their bodies while attempting to cross into Zambia from neighbouring Zimbabwe.

The suspects, both under the age of 25, were found with two pre-packs of suspected high-grade cannabis weighing over 1.54 kilogrammes.

Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has promoted his son, Sean Mnangagwa, from major to lieutenant colonel—the sixth-highest rank in the Zimbabwe National Army.

Sean serves in the elite Presidential Guard and has recently been part of his father’s close security team.

State media reports that he was among nine officers elevated to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel on Wednesday.

The move has fueled speculation that Mnangagwa is tightening his inner security circle amid succession

Nigeria's Dangote mega-refinery says it has begun exporting fuel to other African countries after global oil prices soared due to the war in the Middle East.

Data from tanker-tracking firm Kpler showed on Monday that Nigeria's exports of clean petroleum products had more than doubled daily in March.

Dangote Refinery, which is owned by Africa's richest man, Aliko Dangote, announced late on Sunday that it had sold 12 cargoes totalling 456,000 tons of fuel.

Shipments now stand at around 90 thousand barrels per day.

The recipients so far include Cote d'Ivoire, Cameroon, Tanzania, Ghana, and Togo
