KINGS MM MUMBI CALLS FOR FAIRNESS IN RCV AWARDS

Gospel artist Kings MM Mumbi has challenged Radio Christian Voice (RCV) to reform its annual awards, saying the current system lacks fairness and transparency.

Mumbi praised RCV for its long-standing contribution to Zambiaโ€™s gospel music industry but expressed concern that some awards appear to be influenced by personal relationships rather than talent and impact. He warned that this undermines the credibility of both the station and the industry.

He cited artists such as Chilu, Francis, the Chibesas, Vusi Fortune, Colin the Machine, Stanslous Bwalya, Toliwe Nyerenda and Ruben Kabwe as examples of musicians whose impactful songs deserve proper recognition.

Mumbi urged RCV to restore confidence in the awards by ensuring a merit-based and accountable selection process, saying the future of the gospel music industry depends on fairness.

RCV is yet to comment.

Teachers in Zambia Most Neglected Despite Being Pillars of Education-NAQEZ

The National Action for Quality Education in Zambia NAQEZ says teachers remain some of the most neglected workers in the country despite their vital role in national development.

NAQEZ Executive Director Dr. Aaron Chansa says many teachers continue to suffer poor conditions of service, with thousands still unable to receive their settling-in allowances when transferred.

He says this is unfair, especially when other government workers get the benefit automatically.

Dr. Chansa also highlights poor housing for teachers in rural areas, where some still live in grass-thatched houses, while other sectors receive modern accommodation.

He further points to salary distortions and long periods of acting without confirmation as major frustrations for teachers.

He insists his advocacy is not political but driven by a conviction that Zambia must treat teachers better.

Dr. Chansa says the country has the capacity to improve teacher welfare and warns that without proper motivation, quality education will remain unattainable.

Roan United booked their place in the 2025/26 ABSA Cup, becoming the first National League side to qualify. Their spot was confirmed following a gritty Week 16, 1โ€“0 victory over Forest Rangers at Dola Hill Stadium last Saturday.

The win pushed Stylish back to the summit on 33 points, and with only two fixtures remaining before the seasonโ€™s midpoint, they are now mathematically beyond reach for any team outside the top four.

TEENAGER DIES AFTER COLLAPSING IN FEAR WHILE WATCHING MOVIE IN CHOMA

A 15-year-old boy from Lwiindi Village in Chomaโ€™s Macha Chiefdom has collapsed and died from supposed fear shortly after watching a movie on a smartphone with his 43-year-old grandmother and 21-year-old uncle.

Following the movie, the deceased, Joseph Chiinya, is said to have screamed in fear as if startled, thereafter collapsed, leaning on his grandmotherโ€™s right shoulder.

He was rushed to Mbabala Clinic, where he was formally pronounced dead upon arrival, with the matter, which is said to have occurred on 2nd December 2025 around 19:00 hours, reported to police.

Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Moono Namalongo, says officers who inspected the remains observed no visible injuries, adding that no foul play is suspected at this stage.

The remains of the deceased were deposited in the Choma General Hospital mortuary awaiting burial procedures.

POINT TO EVEN ONE CLAUSE IN BILL 7 THAT IS A DANGER TO DEMOCRACY -OPPOSITION CHALLENGED

State House has challenged a consortium of opposition leaders to specify exactly which parts of the proposed Bill 7 they oppose, following an open letter deposited at the presidential gates earlier this week.

In a statement issued today, Chief Communications Specialist Clayson Hamasaka said government has carefully reviewed the letter but found no single clause highlighted as a danger to democracy.

He noted that while the opposition made a dramatic presentation, their submission lacked clear, clause-by-clause objections.

Mr. Hamasaka said the situation contrasts sharply with President Hakainde Hichilemaโ€™s stance on Bill 10 years ago, when he openly identified provisions he believed posed threats to democratic governance. State House is now urging the opposition leaders to show the same clarity by listing their specific concerns by Sunday, 7th December.

The statement further questions whether the leaders are objecting to the delimitation measures aimed at improving fair representation, or the introduction of the Mixed-Member Proportional Representation system designed to increase participation for women, youth, and persons with disabilities.

Government says it is ready to consider any genuine and constructive objections, but warns that failure to identify even one clause will confirm public suspicions that the letter was more about political spectacle than substance.

Malanji seeks court order to stop forfeiture of seized helicopters!

Former Foreign Affairs Minister Joe Malanji has applied before the Lusaka Magistrates Court seeking an order to stay the forfeiture ex*****on of two helicopters which were seized by the state a month ago.

In the application filed at the subordinate court, Mr. Malanji says he is aware that President Hakainde Hichilema publicly declared the two helicopters forfeited in the matter will be donated to the Zambia Air Force โ€“ZAF- and that he has written to the Director of Public Prosecutions Gilbert Phiri to express concern about the pronouncement.

He argues that if the helicopters are forfeited before his appeal in the Lusaka High Court is determined, any successful outcome on appeal will be rendered academic and prejudicial to the appeal.

Malanji also maintains that the helicopters are the subject of parallel proceedings in South Africa and that third-party interests in some of the properties remain unresolved.

The application comes after Mr. Malanjiโ€™s conviction on seven counts of possessing property suspected to be proceeds of crime under the forfeiture of proceeds of crime act.

He was sentenced to four yearsโ€™ imprisonment with hard labour and filed an appeal against both conviction and sentence in September.

Malanji has asked the court to preserve the status quo by staying ex*****on of the forfeiture order pending the appeal, saying such relief is necessary to prevent irreparable prejudice.

Waiting for Someone to Die? โ€” NAQEZ Slams Shocking Recruitment Method

The National Action for Quality Education in Zambia (NAQEZ) has raised serious concern over the Ministry of Educationโ€™s handling of the 2,400 teachers recruited earlier this year under the replacement mode, saying many of them remain off the Government payroll months after their selection.

NAQEZ Executive Director Dr. Aaron Chansa said he has in recent days received numerous calls from distressed teachers who were successfully recruited but are still not receiving salaries and have not been told when they will be placed on the payroll.

According to the affected teachers, ministry officials have indicated that payroll inclusion can only happen once current teachers either retire or pass awayโ€”a revelation Dr. Chansa described as โ€œdeeply troubling and torturous.โ€

โ€œThese teachers were never informed that their employment depended on someone retiring or dying,โ€ Dr. Chansa said. โ€œSome even resigned from their previous jobs expecting to transition into secure government roles. They are now stuck in limbo.โ€

He questioned the logic behind recruiting teachers before vacancies are available, arguing that the Ministry should only conduct replacement-mode recruitment after retirements or deaths have created actual positions.

โ€œWhy recruit before creating space? With proper systems and leadership, this process can be handled transparently, effectively and seamlessly,โ€ Dr. Chansa added.

He has since called on the Ministry of Education to urgently clarify the situation and place the affected teachers on the payroll without further delay.

NAQEZ says it remains committed to engaging the Government to ensure that future recruitment exercises are fair, efficient and aligned with national education needs.
