😂 *THE PROBLEM BETWEEN MWANA MAYANDI AND MWANA WAKOMBONI*
There was a time when, for us mwana wa komboni, speaking English was a competence/skill acquired after years of serious practice. 😂
You couldn't just open your mouth and English would come out. Never! First, you had to think.
Someone would say:
👉 “Twaya kuno!” — “Come here.”
👉 “Muna kuya kuli?” — “Where are you going?”
The process was something like this:
Local language → Think deeply → Translate → Analyse → Reverse-check → Sweat a little 😂 → Then finally release the English!
So, for a mwana wa komboni, every English sentence was basically a mini examination. 😂
Speaking just one paragraph in English was already CBC on its own because you had demonstrated critical thinking, competence, skill, problem-solving and perseverance before the sentence even came out! 🤣
Then came mwana Mayandi...
These ones were born with an aorta of English running directly to the tongue! 😂😂
They don't seem to think about what they are going to say. English simply downloads itself automatically from the brain to the tongue.
No loading...
No buffering...
No translation...
No “waiting in thinking how to say , Twaya kuno in English again?” 😂
Just: “Good morning, how are you?”
Mwana wa Komboni: “Eeeh... wait... let me first translate that in my head.” 🤣🤣
But here is where competence and critical thinking come in.
If you doubt this, conduct the following simple self-assessment:
📝 SELF-ASSESSMENT

1. Count from 1 to 10.
Easy, right? 😎

2. Now count from 10 back to 1.
10, 9, 8, 7... suddenly the brain has called for a staff meeting! 😂😂
OR try this:
🎵 1. Sing:
Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday...
Easy!
🎵 2. Now sing it backwards:
Sunday, Saturday, Friday, Thursday... 😂
Suddenly your tongue starts negotiating with your brain:
“Boss, are you sure about this assignment?” 🤣
Now ask yourself:
a. Which one was easier?
b. Which one was a little tricky?
c. In which of the two activities did you actually have to think more?
d. Why?
Trust me, you probably didn't give much thought to No. 1 because it is already stored and automatic.(that's mwana mayandi)
But No. 2 required you to stop, process, rearrange and think. (That's mwana komboni)
And that, my friends, is where critical thinking comes in. 😂
So perhaps the difference between mwana Mayandi and mwana wa komboni is not simply about who speaks better English.
Sometimes, competence is not about how quickly something comes out of your mouth; it is about the action that happens before it produces the results! 😂
After all, if everything is automatic, where is the critical thinking? 🤣
