Youssef Douga, a 50-year-old Algerian Engineer Dies Attempting First Flight of Homemade Aircraft

Youssef Douga, a 50-year-old urban technical management graduate from Algeria, had previously conducted successful tests of his aircraft in Ouled Mansour, about 260 kilometers southeast of Algiers. In late May, he managed to fly the aircraft within his province. However, his final test on the ground ended in disaster.

💡Douga's father recalled that from a young age, his son loved exploring and experimenting with everything scientific.

Across social media, tributes poured in for the daring inventor. Many compared him to 9th-century aviation pioneer Abbas Ibn Firnas, celebrating his visionary spirit while mourning the heartbreaking end to his flight dreams.

Zimbabwe Slashes Raw Wine Import Costs to Boost Domestic Wineries

In a move aimed at revitalizing the local wine industry, the Finance Ministry suspended excise tax on raw wine imports for two years, as outlined in Statutory Instrument 68 of 2025, published in the Government Gazette.

🍾 To qualify for the duty suspension, wine manufacturers must meet the following criteria:

🟠to be an approved manufacturer licensed by the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority;

🟠imports of up to 100,000 liters per year are eligible for the suspension;

🟠use the imported wine exclusively for local processing at approved facilities.

Though relatively small, Zimbabwe's wine market is growing. According to Statista, the market is forecasted to reach $12.64 million in 2025, with annual revenue growth of over 8%.

At Least 239 Children Died in Western Sudan From Malnutrition in Six Months, Medical Organization Says

The deaths are linked to severe malnutrition, medicine shortages, and attacks on nutrition centers in El Fasher, North Darfur province, Sudan Doctors Network, a civilian medical organization, said in a statement.

With food nearly unavailable and prices soaring, the organization urged the international community to push the RSF rebel group for the implementation of UN Secretary-General Guterres' ceasefire proposal.

"Immediate action is needed to open humanitarian corridors, allow the delivery of emergency aid and medical supplies, and lift the siege that has gripped El Fasher for over a year," the statement read.

The Sudanese army has accepted Guterres' one-week humanitarian truce, aimed at facilitating the delivery of aid to refugees in the region.
