NDC MOURNS HELLEN KAMUTUMBE AND COMMENDS SENIOR CHIEF MUSELI FOR CLOSING KISASA MARKET
24 March 2026
The killing of Hellen Kamutumbe in broad day light in Kalumbila at Kisasa market, while some people watched and laughed makes very sad reading. The horrific pictures of the murder have left us in tears.
The senseless killing of Mrs. Kamutumbe in Kisasa by the mob, fueled by misinformation and mob mentality, is a stark reminder of the dangers of unchecked vigilantism. Our hearts go out to the victim's family and loved ones.
This tragic incident highlights the need for urgent action to address the root causes of such violence, including lack of trust in institutions and the spread of misinformation. We urge authorities to continue investigating and bring ALL perpetrators to justice swiftly.
Let us stand together against mob justice and promote a culture of peace, tolerance, and respect for human life.
When a country is in crisis, leadership matters. Leaders guide how societies co-exist and champion national values. As President of the NDC, I strongly condemn the barbaric attack on Hellen Kamutumbe in Kalumbila and pray for peace, healing and unity. Love and unity must be preconditions for community life; no one should die like Hellen did.
Hellen’s death is heartbreaking, frustrating, and it breaks the hearts of many women and men across Zambia. For this reason, we appreciate and highly commend His Royal Highness Senior Chief Museli's decision to close Kisasa Market. It is painful to imagine how all those people, young and old, just watched as an innocent woman was being brutally killed like that.
Young people must be encouraged to respect social values and to fear the law. When citizens take the law into their own hands, this is the result. Do not entertern false ideas about “stolen” body parts passed down as fact, pride dressed up as proof, and crowds that punish first and ask questions later. This is totally wrong and barbaric.
