Govt to Release Teacher Recruitment List Wednesday

By Moombe Hamoobola

Education Minister DOUGLAS SYAKALIMA says he will announce the list of recruited teachers next week on Wednesday.

Mr. SYAKALIMA says he will recruit more teachers than the 4,200 earlier announced.

He says people have been complaining that he has delayed announcing the list but that it was because he was pushing for more numbers.

Mr. SYAKALIMA said this today at the Basic Education Teachers Union of Zambia- BETUZ- first by annual conference in Livingstone.

Meanwhile, Mr. SYAKALIMA said President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA will win the 2026 general election because of the high number of jobs the UPND government has created.

GCE TO CONTINUE WITH THE NEW CURRICULUM

The rolling out of the 2023 New School Curriculum will have no effect on the General Certificate of Education (GCE) examinations, Examinations Council of Zambia (ECZ) Executive Director, Dr. Michael Chilala has said.

Dr. Chilala has clarified that the GCE will continue even with the new school curriculum because people will still want to better their results even with the new developments.

Speaking on the Edu Talkzone, a Ministry of Education information dissemination talkshow, Dr. Chilala said the ECZ will in due course guide in terms of the rules as to how someone will qualify to sit for GCE examinations.

He said the nation will be informed of the new rules that will apply when writing the GCE examinations.

Dr. Chilala explained that this is because the 2023 New Curriculum has abolished the Grade 9 examinations meaning that the current rules for writing GCE examinations will have to be uplifted and clarified to avoid people abusing the qualifications.

In addition, Dr. Chilala has revealed that the ECZ is a very credible institution that is trusted by other examining bodies not only in Africa but globally.

He said the ECZ is the only Examining body in Africa that is examining in another country, which is South Africa.

Dr. Chilala said this is a sign of recognition of the credible work that the national examining body is doing.

The ECZ Boss, who explained the development and management of examinations in Zambia, said the ECZ is a trusted institution as can be seen by its membership in the international Associations of Education Assessments.

“We are a very credible institution and we say this because we are trusted internationally. For your information ECZ is not only a member but has headed the Southern Africa Association for Educational Assessments. The ECZ is also a member of the Association for Education Assessments in Africa as well as the International Association for Education Assessments.”

*14 DAYS COUNT DOWN STARTS NOW*
👇👇👇👇👇👇👇
*THE DELAY ON CIRCULATION OF FORM I SUBJECT SYLLABUSES WORRIES MANY TEACHERS ACROSS THE COUNTRY*

26.01. 2025

With exactly *14 days* more to go before the *Form I learners* report to school on *10th February, 2025* , the delay to circulate the public documents to teachers of at least soft copies has worried many teachers.

However, some teachers are happy with the two syllabuses circulated so far, thus *Mathematics and Physics* and to that effect they have started interacting with them and strategizing on how they will implement them come *10th February, 2025* .

The appeal, therefore goes to the offices responsible for the release of these official documents to do so almost immediately so that teachers can begin interacting with the Syllabuses in the *remaining 14 days* just like the colleagues in *Mathematics and Physics* have done.

The public expectations are very high and any delay on part of the implementors can turn *political and mockery* hence the need to move steady fast to avoid embarrassing the ruling government.

Therefore, whether *signed or not signed* the Syllabuses can still be shared as that doesn't change the content inside.

If the Syllabuses are not shared in time, any *chaotic implementation of the new Curriculum on 10th February, 2025* should be blamed on whoever is sitting on the release of the Syllabuses.

Otherwise, congratulations *Mathematics and Physics curriculum experts* for the job well done and timely release of these important public documents.

SUCCESS OF NEW CURRICULUM IN TEACHERS HANDS – SYAKALIMA

Education Minister, Hon. Douglas Syakalima has urged Teachers to quickly adapt and embrace the new school curriculum.

The Education Minister has said this is because the success of the new curriculum rests in the hands of teachers.

Hon. Syakalima was speaking Wednesday January 15, when he officially opened the Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) Teacher Training at the National Science Centre in Lusaka.

“We anticipate that teachers will leave this training equipped not only with technical expertise but also with the inspiration and determination to drive change in their schools and communities. I encourage you teachers to approach this training with enthusiasm and commitment. The success of this curriculum and ultimately the future of our learners’ rests in your capable hands.” Hon. Syakalima said.

The Minister also appealed to all stakeholders to continue their partnership with government to ensure delivery of an education system that transforms lives and advances Zambia's developmental goals.

Several teachers of Early Child Education-ECE, Grade One (1) and Form One (1) from Lusaka have been selected to undergo training to effectively implement the Competence Based Curriculum-CBC ahead of February 10, 2025 when the aforementioned classes will start term one under the new curriculum.

The event was characterized by a celebratory mood as Hon. Syakalima underscored the importance of teachers, whom he described as indispensable building blocks of society.

“As you may be aware, the implementation of this CBC curriculum will be in a phased approach starting with Early Childhood Education (ECE), Grade 1, and Form 1, from 2025 to 2028. This phased implementation of the CBC, is a reaffirmation of our commitment to nurturing a generation of learners who are prepared to meet the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.” The Education Minister said.

Hon. Syakalima added that the Training is a testament to t
