UPND candidate’s name missing on Lumezi ballot papers!

The Electoral Commission of Zambia has confirmed that the name of a candidate contesting the ongoing by-election in Lumezi has been accidentally omitted from the ballot papers.

In a statement released today, the Commission acknowledged the error, stating that while all other details relating to the candidate were correctly printed, the name itself was inadvertently left out.

The ECZ has described the matter as one of “utmost urgency and seriousness” and announced that a thorough internal review is already underway.

“The goal of the review is to determine how the omission occurred and to decide on corrective actions in line with the country’s electoral laws and procedures. The Commission deeply regrets this oversight and assures all stakeholders and members of the public that the integrity of the electoral process remains our highest priority,” said ECZ Chief Electoral Officer, Brown Kasaro.

The Commission has pledged to issue a comprehensive update once the review is complete and the appropriate course of action is determined.

The Lumezi by-election is scheduled to take place on Thursday, June 26, 2025.
