PRESS STATEMENT

SHOOTING INCIDENT – CHILENJE POLICE STATION

August 18,2025-Chilenje Police Station recorded a shooting incident which occurred in G-Greens area of Chalala between August 17, 2025 at 24:00 hours and August 18,2025 at 01:00 hours.

The victims have been identified as Assistant Superintendent James Phiri, 45, of Police Headquarters – Operations, and his wife Chief Inspector Astridah Bwalya, of the Paramilitary Battalion Headquarters Training Wing. Both sustained gunshot wounds and are admitted to the University Teaching Hospital, with Mr. Phiri reported stable while Mrs. Phiri remains in critical condition.

Initial findings indicate that the firearm involved, is a Ta**us pistol which has since been secured.Investigations into the circumstances of the shooting are underway and the public will be informed of further developments in due course.
