A clinical officer from Ndola Teaching Hospital has been detained after a viral social media video showed him physically assaulting a traffic officer instead of adhering to medical ethics.

The incident occurred around 10:15 AM near Lake Petroleum, close to Hillcrest Police Post, when the officer was enforcing traffic regulations on the Ndola-Kitwe Road. Emmanuel Njovu, 32, reportedly became confrontational after being pulled over for traffic violations. Instead of cooperating, Njovu allegedly resorted to physical aggression, engaging in a hand-to-hand altercation with the traffic officer, George Ilyamupu.

According to police reports, Njovu was delaying proper parking instructions, blaming the traffic officer for his lateness to a hospital duty, and then began resisting guidance to the police station. During the scuffle, he reportedly resisted arrest and inflicted body pains on the officer using kicks and punches, which required public intervention to separate them.

Police authorities stated that Njovu's behavior was unprofessional and contrary to his responsibilities as a medical practitioner. He has been charged with assaulting a police officer under Section 250(c) of the Penal Code and is currently in custody.
