Youth Life Project Urges Chama Youths to Shun Social Vices
By Patrick Mkandawire
The Youth Life Project, aimed at empowering young people, has called on the youth of Chama District in Eastern province to stay away from destructive behaviors such as drug and substance abuse, gender-based violence, and early marriages.
Speaking during a community sensitisation meeting held in Chama, Project Administrative Officer Yobe Chilembo emphasized the importance of youth involvement in building a better future for themselves and their communities.
Mr. Chilembo said main objective is to end child marriages and promote positive youth development.
He said the organisation will continue working hand-in-hand with government departments and other stakeholders to eliminate harmful cultural practices that hinder youth progress.
Rachael Simete, a officer from the Chama Police Victim Support Unit, warned about the rising cases of gender-based violence and early marriages in the district.
She encouraged communities to report such cases and work collectively to protect the rights of children and women.
Emmanuel Sichembwe, a Youth Life Project member, advised his fellow youths to avoid drug abuse, stressing that substance misuse not only derails personal growth but also destroys future opportunities.
“Let’s stay focused and build our future with integrity and purpose,” he said.
Febby Nyirenda, also a member of the Youth Life Project, urged pupils to take full advantage of the government’s free education policy and Avoid early marriages and concentrate on the studies.
There is a time for everything, and the right time for marriage will come, she stated.
Meanwhile, Faith Mweenda, another youth advocate, encouraged young people in the district to apply for government-sponsored empowerment programs and vocational training initiatives.
These programs are meant to equip us with skills that can help us become self-reliant,she added.
