In a move that surprised onlookers, the Lion of the World opted to roar without legal counsel after his lawyer, Jonas Zimba, was a no show for the trial. Rather than seeking an adjournment, Kapwepwe stepped into the ring to defend himself against serious allegations of hate speech before Principal Resident Magistrate Idah Phiri.

KAPIRI MPOSHI, May 8, 2026 – A tragic road traffic accident occurred early this morning, claiming the lives of two people and leaving another hospitalized. The incident took place at approximately 03:00 hours near the Green Leaf lay-by along the Great North Road, about 28 kilometers south of Kapiri Mposhi town.

​Incident Details

​The accident involved two vehicles:

​A Mitsubishi Canter (Registration BLA 6918), driven by an unidentified individual.

​A Toyota Dyna (Registration ALH 8710).

​Both vehicles were traveling in a southerly direction. Preliminary reports suggest the driver of the Mitsubishi Canter misjudged the distance or speed of the Toyota Dyna, resulting in a high-speed rear-end collision.

​Casualties and Injuries

​The impact resulted in the immediate death of two passengers in the Mitsubishi Canter. They have been identified as:

​Ashlyn Namfukwe, 34, of the Vincheru area.

​Brenda Chanda (age unknown), of Kawama Compound.

​The driver of the Mitsubishi Canter sustained injuries and was rushed to Kabwe Central Hospital for treatment. The driver and passengers of the Toyota Dyna fortunately escaped the collision unhurt.

​Aftermath and Legal Action

​The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Kapiri Mposhi Urban Clinic Mortuary.

​Authorities have confirmed that the driver of the Mitsubishi Canter has been charged with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving.

​The vehicles involved showed significant damage, with the Mitsubishi Canter’s front cabin extensively crushed and the roof deformed, while the Toyota Dyna sustained damage to its rear right section. Police are continuing their investigation into the exact circumstances of the crash.
