DIAMOND TV SUES SOCIALITE MUTALE MWANZA FOR DEFAMATION

Local broadcasting company, Diamond TV, has taken legal action against socialite Mutale Mwanza, accusing her of making defamatory statements about the station’s annual Personality of the Year Awards (POTYAS).

The lawsuit, filed in the Lusaka High Court, stems from allegations that Ms. Mwanza referred to the awards as "fraudulent" and "a scam" in a post on her page.

In its statement of claim, Diamond TV argues that Mwanza’s remarks were baseless, malicious, and intended to harm the station’s reputation.

The broadcaster contends that her comments painted a false picture of Diamond TV as dishonest, corrupt, and engaged in systematic fraud, undermining its credibility with viewers and stakeholders.

The station is seeking damages for defamation, mental anguish, stress, and financial losses, along with a permanent injunction to prevent Mwanza from making further defamatory remarks.

Diamond TV says the statements have caused ridicule and inconvenience to its staff, particularly those associated with hosting the prestigious awards.
