Thandiwe booked a room at a lodge, had her last meal, drunk alcohol, then three bottles of doom following debt issues
THANDIWE Mwale, a makeup artist and nurse whose death yesterday trended on social media following reports of su***de, checked into a named lodge in Kamwala South, bought two beers, which she emptied before turning to empty three bottles of doom.
Confirming with TV Yatu that Thandiwe died after taking her life on Tuesday around midday, Police Assistant Spokeswoman, Chipo Kaitisha says, preliminary investigations have revealed that the mother of two was in a habit of collecting money from various individuals in the pretext of saving it for interest.
Kaitisha says a housekeeper at the named lodge alerted authorities after discovering Thandiwe lying lifeless in one of the rooms.
When the officers arrived at the lodge, they discovered that the room Thandiwe's lifeless body was in, was locked from the inside.
"Upon forcing entry, they found three empty bottles of insecticide (Doom), two bottles of beer, and a takeaway pack containing chicken and chips near the bed," Kaitisha tells TV Yatu.
Kaitisha says Police investigations have further revealed that, the deceased had been collecting money from various people promising to repay with interest.
"In previous instances when she defaulted, her husband reportedly intervened to repay the debts. However, during a recent default, no one came forward to assist her. This allegedly led to increased pressure and harassment from creditors, which is believed to have contributed to her depression," the assistant Police spokeswoman has told TV Yatu.
Kaitisha says Thandiwe's husband, Army Staff Sergeant Bernard Kazembe identified his wife at the named lodge.
Police recorded this incident on July 8, after Thandiwe left home on the same day around 10:00 am.
Postmortem was carried on her body today, and her remains remain at the University Teaching Hospital-UTH mortuary awaiting burial that takes place tomorrow.
Thandiwe, 28, leaves behind two children and a husband.
