THE United States has congratulated President Hakainde Hichilema on his re-election, reaffirming its commitment to the long-standing partnership between the two countries.
The US said it looks forward to continuing to work with President Hichilema’s administration and the Zambian people to advance shared economic prosperity, regional peace and security, and global health.
It said Zambia and the United States have built a strong and enduring partnership over the past 62 years.
President Hichilema has continued to receive messages of congratulations from heads of state following his reelection, with leaders from Africa and beyond expressing confidence in Zambia’s continued peace, development and international cooperation.
Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) President Félix Tshisekedi wished President Hichilema success in his second term and expressed hope that the two neighbouring countries will continue strengthening bilateral cooperation for the benefit of their people.
President Tshisekedi said Zambia and the DRC are united by geography, history and culture and should continue building on their existing relations.
“We extend our wishes for every success in the fulfilment of your second term and wish the brotherly Zambian people even greater peace, stability and prosperity,” he said.
Chinese President Xi Jinping also congratulated President Hichilema, saying relations between China and Zambia have continued to deepen through increased political mutual trust, practical cooperation and coordination on multilateral affairs.
President Xi said he has met President Hichilema twice in recent years and has worked with him to guide the development of bilateral relations. He said China attaches great importance to its relations with Zambia and is ready to work with President Hichilema to implement the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.
President Xi also pledged to strengthen the traditional friendship between the two countries and raise the level of mutually beneficial cooperation.
Meanwhile, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud congratulated President Hichilema and wished him success as he begins his second term.
President Mohamud reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation with Zambia and pledged to promote collaboration on regional and global issues of mutual interest.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić also congratulated President Hichilema, expressing confidence that relations between Serbia and Zambia will continue to grow stronger.
