Zambia Association of Musicians Pioneers Pension Scheme for Music Artists

I’m happy to share that we are currently exploring ways of securing β€œpensions” for music artists. Since time immemorial, musicians have been viewed as β€˜just entertainers’ but we are determined to change the narrative because we believe that music is a profession.

It is gratifying to learn that even informal sectors like ours are eligible for pensions, and we are working round the clock to ensure that members of the Zambia Association of Musicians - ZAM are not left behind. We will soon make some announcements to this effect.

We are gradually graduating from being a social sector to becoming an economic sector.

IN**ST CASE UNCOVERED AT U.T.H CANCER DISEASE HOSPITAL

A disturbing case of in**st has come to light at the University Teaching Hospital's (U.T.H) cancer disease hospital in Lusaka, Zambia. According to a report filed by Kabwata Police Station on March 11, 2025, a 47-year-old man, Cornhill Habowa, has been accused of sexually abusing his 7-year-old daughter, who is a patient at the hospital.

The abuse allegedly occurred while Habowa was bathing his daughter, with other patients' relatives noticing that he would often bathe her around 10 pm, and the child would cry out in distress. Furthermore, it's alleged that Habowa was seen bathing with his daughter, with both of their clothes hanging on the bathroom door.

The hospital's medical staff were alerted to the situation, and upon examining the child, they discovered fresh cuts on her private parts, confirming the sexual abuse. A social welfare officer, Sandra Ndhlovu, reported the incident to the police, leading to Habowa's arrest and detention.

Habowa has been formally charged with in**st and is currently in police custody, awaiting his court appearance. The Zambia Police Service is handling the case, with Rae Hamoonga, Police Public Relations Officer, confirming the details of the incident

Ugandan High Court and United Nations judge Lydia Mugambe has been found guilty of forcing a young woman to work as a slave in the UK.
Prosecutors said Mugambe exploited her victim, preventing her from securing paid work while forcing her to provide childcare and domestic labor for free.
The 49-year-old was convicted of multiple offenses, including breaching UK immigration laws, facilitating travel for exploitation, and conspiring to intimidate a witness. Mugambe, who was studying for a law PhD at Oxford, denied the charges and claimed diplomatic immunity, which was later waived by the UN.
Gasps were heard in court as the verdict was delivered. She will be sentenced on May 2.

FATHER DEFILES DAUGHTER

A 40-year-old man of Lizauli village in Kazungula district has allegedly defiled his 12-year-old daughter.

The victim's 35-year-old mother of the same village reports that the incident is believed to have occurred on Sunday, March 2nd, 2025, around 22 hours.

According to a statement by Southern Province police Commissioner Auxensio Daka to Byta FM, the victim's father had gone to buy charcoal sacks in the morning and returned at around 22:00 hours.

When he returned, He found the victim sleeping in the sitting room, where she normally sleeps, while her mother was sleeping in the bedroom.

Daka states that the victim awoke to find her father beside her, and she discovered that she was half-undressed, with her skirt up and her va**na wet

He adds that the victim immediately called her mother and informed her of what had happened, further revealing that this was the second time she had been sexually abused by her father, and the first incident occurred in 2022 when her mother left her with her father and brothers for three weeks.

Daka states that the victim did not reveal the incident to her mother at the time, as her father had threatened to kill her if she did.

He says the police have issued a medical report form, and a case docket was opened, further stating that no arrest has been made yet.
