Police have arrested Sydney Silwimba, the Assistant Accountant at Livingstone City Council, in connection with the theft of Constituency Development Funds (CDF).

Sydney Silwimba, 35, had been on the run since June 6, 2025, when the matter was first reported to police.

Silwimba was apprehended on August 22, 2025.

Southern Province Police Commanding Officer, Auxensio Daka, confirmed the arrest and disclosed that Silwimba is accused of stealing K316,000 meant for CDF empowerment beneficiaries.

According to Daka, he was formally charged on September 7, 2025, with 11 counts of Theft by Public Servant.

Political Analyst and Historian Professor Bizeck Phiri says that any calls for the impeachment of President Hakainde Hichilema must be based on a strong and credible case.

His remarks follow recent calls by Lusaka lawyer Celestine Mukandila for President Hichilemaโ€™s impeachment over alleged violations of nine constitutional provisions related to Bill No. 7.

In an interview, Professor Phiri says that legal professionals must approach such matters with integrity and present well-founded arguments before the courts of law.

He also urges the opposition to be more organized, stating that if President Hichilema is to be removed from office, it should reflect the will of the voters and not driven by questionable impeachment efforts.
