MP REFUTES CLAIMS ON ZAMBIA-KIMASALA ROAD WASHED OFF

Solwezi Central Member of Parliament Stafford Mulusa has refuted social media reports alleging that the Zambia-Kimasala road under construction by JDCon Zambia construction company was washed off due to poor quality work following the Saturday, October 25th, downpour.

Social media reports indicated that the Zambia-Kimasala road, which is one of the roads being constructed under the 10.1-kilometer Solwezi township roads project funded by the central government, was left dilapidated after heavy rains which were experienced in Solwezi yesterday.

However, speaking to the media in Solwezi today, Mr Mulusa clarified that the road remains intact, explaining that the minor damage witnessed is normal as it is near the bridge.

“The corrosion that we saw is just before the bridge which is normal because there is a bridge that is being made so they have left a space in between for the bridge to be completed,” he said.

CHURCH WORRIES OVER INCREASED SU***DE, DEFILEMENT CASES

Catholic Diocese of Chipata Auxiliary Bishop Gabriel Phiri has expressed worry over the increased number of su***de and child defilement cases in Eastern Province.

Every month Police in Eastern Province have been recording cases of su***de and child abuse, with police statistics showing that the region recorded 68 su***de cases between January and July this year.

And speaking in an interview, Bishop Phiri called for concerted efforts with various stakeholders in combating the vices.
“Looking at young people committing su***de, we wonder what is happening to our society. For me, it requires coordinated efforts,” he said.

He wondered what could be the motivation for some to sleep with a minor or commit su***de.

The Auxiliary Bishop pointed out the need for the church to go to the drawing board and inspire hope among the people using a biblical approach.

He stated that the church, government and non-state actors must ascertain what is causing the escalating cases of su***de and child abuse.
