ZAMBIA LAW DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION COMMENDED

Minister of Justice, Princess Kasune has commended the Zambia Law Development Commission for institutionalising the Zambia Parliamentary Model United Nations (ZAMP-MUN) to tertiary level.

Ms Kasune says the initiative, which provides a platform for students to debate on issues affecting the country, analyse policies and propose tangible reforms, places young people at the centre of national discourse and legal innovation.

ZANIS reports that ZLDC resolved to introduce the University Edition of the ZAMP-MUN, following the successful hosting of the inaugural conference for Secondary Schools last year.

The Minister was speaking when she closed the ZAMP-MUN conference, held at the University of Lusaka (UNILUS), in Chongwe, under the theme “Strengthening Inclusive Governance for Sustainable National Development,”

And in their resolutions, the students, who took a parliamentary model of deliberation, representing constituencies, proposed law reforms, promoting environmental sustainability in the implementation of infrastructure development in the country.

MUMBWA COUNCIL EMBARKS ON VIGOROUS LOAN RECOVERIES

Mambwe Town Council has commenced a rigorous recovery process aimed at ensuring all beneficiaries of the Constituency Development Funds (CDF) loans who have defaulted on repayment since 2022 are held accountable as stipulated by law.

Mambwe Town Council Public Relations Officer Grace Lungu says the authority is deeply concerned with the low repayment rate under the Youth, Women, and Community Empowerment Loan component of the CDF.

Ms Lungu says this shortfall is significantly hindering the successful implementation of the program, which is intended to empower local communities and improve livelihoods.

She says from 2022 to 2024, Mambwe Town Council disbursed a total of K7, 450,270.00, with an expected total recovery amounting to K8, 656,571.00, inclusive of both principal and interest.

She however says that, as of April 2025, only K887, 454.37 has been recovered representing a very small fraction of the expected amount.

She stated that this move is in accordance with the CDF guidelines and the provisions of the Public Finance Management Act of 2018.
