PRESIDENT HICHILEMA AND FIRST LADY MUTINTA THANK SUPPORTERS AT CHOMA BULL AUCTION, URGE ZAMBIANS TO CONTRIBUTE TO NATIONAL GROWTH

Choma, June 1, 2025 — President Hakainde Hichilema and First Lady Mutinta Hichilema have expressed heartfelt gratitude to all those who attended and participated in their bull auction held this afternoon in Choma, reaffirming their belief in agriculture as a key driver of Zambia’s economic growth.

In a message shared after the event, the First Couple thanked clients and supporters, stating, “Thank you to everyone who showed up at our bull auction this afternoon in Choma. We do not take our clients for granted.”

The auction, part of their continued efforts to support livestock farming and agribusiness, drew farmers, business owners, and agricultural enthusiasts from across Southern Province.

Encouraging fellow citizens, President Hichilema and the First Lady called on Zambians to take inspiration from the event and recognize the potential in every economic sector to contribute to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

“To Zambians, we hope you are inspired that in our own small way, we are contributing to Zambia’s GDP through agriculture,” they stated. “You, too, can do it in whatever economic sector you are interested in.”

They emphasized the importance of productivity and innovation, urging Zambians to adopt a mindset of surplus creation: “We should produce more than we consume in whatever we do—goods or services.”

The auction served not only as a business venture but also as a symbol of empowerment, showcasing what is possible when private initiative aligns with national development goals.

The event aligns with President Hichilema’s broader economic agenda that promotes value addition, rural development, and local entrepreneurship as pillars for a stronger, self-reliant Zambia.

Condemnation of Assault on Mr. Vincent Kafweta by Mufumbwe District Youth Chairman

Lusaka, June 1, 2025

The Office of the Deputy Media Director at the UPND National Youth Office strongly condemns the attack on Mr. Vincent Kafweta, who is the brother of Deputy Media Director Castrol Kafweta. The attack was carried out by Mr. Kapaku, also known as Mwanawasa the Mufumbwe District Youth Chairman, along with his co-accused.

Our office finds it completely unacceptable and disturbing that a youth leader would resort to physical violence, which goes against the party's values and the President's directive to uphold the rule of law and promote peaceful conduct.

We urge the Zambia Police Service in Mufumbwe to take immediate and decisive action to ensure that the perpetrators face the full consequences of their actions. No individual, whether a member of UPND or anyone else, is above the law. Crimes committed under the guise of party affiliation will not be tolerated.

The commitment of the UPND government to uphold the rule of law must be respected, and those responsible for this assault must be held accountable._

Castrol Kafweta

30/05/2025

We were honoured today in Chililabombwe to participate in the official unveiling of JCHX Mining Limited as the new strategic investor in Lubambe Copper Mine Limited.

This occasion also marked the groundbreaking of the deep ore body mining project, a critical inflection point in our quest to fully unlock Zambia’s mineral wealth and realise our national ambition of producing 3 million tonnes of copper annually, by 2031.

Our economic vision is anchored on attracting investment that delivers measurable impact. We cannot build a resilient nation if we consume more than we produce. That path leads to unsustainable debt and missed opportunities. Only through productive sectors like mining, farming and others, can we create enduring jobs, grow local enterprise, and expand revenue for national development.

We commend the leadership of Lubambe and ZCCM-IH for their perseverance in sustaining operations through turbulent times. We also applaud the Minister of Mines and Minerals Development for his steadfast commitment in securing this vital transaction.

This spirit of partnership, rooted in mutual trust and shared values, is essential for driving sustainable economic growth.

Hakainde Hichilema,
President of the Republic of Zambia

KEY TAKEAWAYS FROM THE GOVERNMENT-MEDIA ENGAGEMENT HELD BY THE MINISTER OF INFORMATION AND MEDIA AND CHIEF GOVERNMENT SPOKESPERSON HON. CORNELIUS MWEETWA MP, TODAY.

1. Government Urges CSOs to Submit Alternative Proposals on Bill No. 7

• Call for Constructive Engagement:

Government has invited Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to propose refined and alternative provisions to Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 7, 2025, instead of simply demanding its withdrawal.

• Inclusive Consultation Process:

Government emphasized the amendment process is consultative and inclusive, engaging citizens, traditional leaders, the church, student bodies, labor movements, and political entities.

• Financial Justification:

Over K300 million has been lost through by-elections in the past three years—mostly at the local level. The bill aims to reduce this cost and redirect funds to key areas such as:

• Free education
• University student meal allowances
• Constituency Development Fund (CDF)
• No Political Advantage to President Hichilema:

Government dismissed claims that the bill benefits the President politically, stating it contains no provisions that affect the 2026 elections.

• Delimitation is a Constitutional Requirement:

The planned constituency delimitation exercise is not political but required by the Constitution after every 10 years, and Zambia has now completed that cycle.

2. Government Dismisses Claims on EU, UK Visa Refund Demands

• Clarification on Misinformation:

Government categorically denied social media claims that President Hichilema demanded visa fee refunds from the EU or UK for rejected Zambian applicants.

• No Official Statement Issued:

Neither the President nor any government official has made such demands.

• Call for Caution:

Citizens were urged to verify information through official and credible sources to avoid spreading misinformation.

• Diplomatic Commitment Reaffirmed:

Zambia remains committed to maintaining strong, respectful relations with all international partners, including the EU and UK.

Conclusion:

The government reiterated its commitment to transparency, constructive dialogue, and constitutional integrity, while warning against misinformation that may mislead the public or jeopardize international relations.
