KWATAKO ORDER ⚒️ URGENT PUBLIC HEALTH ALERT

To all members of the public,

If you encounter a dead hippo in the Luangwa ecosystem, please report it immediately to the Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW).

IMPORTANT SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

During hot seasons, the valley experiences isolated cases of anthrax.

Therefore, if you find a dead hippo:

i. Do not touch the carcass.

ii. Do not consume any part of the hippo's meat.

iii. Report to DNPW immediately.

ADDITIONAL MEASURE;

Once the incident is reported and under the supervision of authorised personnel, the carcass should be treated with lime to neutralize anthrax spores and prevent further spread.

Anthrax is a dangerous disease. Your prompt reporting and caution will help prevent outbreaks and protect human and animal life.

OFFICIAL 🚨

Malawi Electoral Commission Chairperson Justice Annabel Mtalimanja has declared Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, as the winner of the September 16 general elections.

Mutharika secured victory with 3,035, 249 votes representing 56. 8 of the total valid votes. With this announcement, Malawi now has a president elect, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.

Malawians have spoken, demonstrating their power through the ballot by electing a new leader.

Quick Sports Update 🚨

FIFA have held talks on the 2030 World Cup expansion to 64 nations on Tuesday.

The proposal was pitched by a delegation of South American leaders.

This could be a one-off decision to mark the 100th anniversary of the 1930 World Cup.

POLICE in North-Western Province are investigating a case in which an 18-year-old motorbike rider was allegedly r***d by an unknown woman.

North-Western Division Commissioner of Police, Brighton Siwale, said this follows a report made by the 18-year-old at Kasempa Police Station.

Mr Siwale said the victim, of Kikonkomene Village in Chief Kasempa’s area, reported that the incident happened on September 17, 2025, around 22:00 hours in Kikonkomene.

The victim alleged that he was s*xually abused by an unknown woman from the area, whom he can identify if seen, and sustained injuries to his private parts.

“Brief facts of the matter are that on the material day, the victim was working as a motorbike rider within Kasempa township. While working around 22:00 hours, he was booked by a female person he did not know by name to take her to Kikonkomene at her residence,” Mr Siwale explained.

Upon reaching the house, the victim remained outside while the woman entered, pretending to collect money to pay him. After a few minutes, she called him inside.

“Just after he entered, the lady closed the door and demanded that they should have s*x. He tried to resist but discovered that in the same house, there were two other women who forced him to have carnal knowledge of her, threatening to call others to beat him and seize his motorbike,” Mr Siwale said.

The victim was then taken into the bedroom where he had unprotected s*x with the woman, whom he says he can identify if seen.

Mr Siwale added that after three days, the victim felt unwell and sought medical attention at the hospital. Upon narrating the ordeal, he was advised to report the matter to Kasempa Police.

A medical report form was issued, and a case docket of r**e was opened.

Mr Siwale said no arrest has been made yet.

GOVERNMENT says it targets to ensure a minimum 16 hours of daily electricity supply to residential areas within this month.

Deputy Secretary to Cabinet for Finance and Economic Development Siazongo Siakalenge stressed the need to leverage the favourable energy reforms being implemented like the open access and net metering.

Speaking during the quarterly meeting of controlling officers under the Finance and Economic Development (FED) cluster, he said the power supply crisis is having a serious impact on the country’s development agenda.

“Our immediate target is to ensure a minimum of 16 hours of daily electricity supply to residential areas and compounds,” he stated.

Mr Siakalenge stressed the need to work together to urgently address the issue, as it has the potential to derail progress.

“We need to leverage the favourable energy reforms we have implemented, such as open access and net metering, to effectively address the energy challenges we are currently facing,” he added.

He, however, noted that despite experiencing the worst drought in history, the economy still grew last year.
