All Things MSMEs!

By Victor Nyasulu

ConsultantsVNc09180825-Marketing

As stated last week, a conversation about marketing is incomplete without the four Ps of marketing. The said four Ps also known as the marketing mix combine together almost magically for successfully marketed products and/or services.

The said four Ps are stand for Product, Price, Promotion and Place. Most MSMEs in Zambia do not think that professional marketing is worth spending money on. In difficult economic situations, therefore, the expense lines that suffer big cuts include marketing yet Marketers will argue that, that is the exact perfect time for increasing marketing spend!

The power of marketing in recent Zambian history can perhaps be best illustrated by the VATRA brand of water as compared to the Manzi brand! MANZI, as some of my readers will recall was introduced so many years before trade kings’ VATRA brand and yet if someone visited Zambia from abroad today, they would be excused if they think that VATRA has been on the Zambian drinking water market for longer than the MANZI or even VITAL brands!

By the way, is marketing indeed worth bothering about for any MSME? The answer is a definite Yes!

It is a ‘Yes’ because marketing can:Increase visibility i.e., it can help reach new customers and expand market presence

Drive sales i.e., effective marketing strategies lead to increased revenueBuilds brand identity i.e., establishes a unique image and reputation

Enhance competitive advantage i.e., it can help differentiate MSMEs from competitors

Help adaptation to market changes i.e., it can enable MSMEs to respond to shifting Customer needs.

Marketing actually helps MSMEs to:Identify target audiencesDevelop brand awarenessCreate customer engagement Generate leads Measure performance.

By leveraging marketing, MSMEs can achieve sustainable growth, improve competitiveness, and increase market share.

Back to the four Ps.

Product refers to the actual thing or service being offered to the market. What value is actually being sold? Whatever it is, it must be something in demand. This therefore, presupposes that an effective market survey was done in the first place! In other words, this is what the MSME is offering to solve an identified customer need.

The Price represents that cost and profit inherent in the making of the product/service by the investor or his/her agent

KALABA CAN'T BE GIANT WITH 3 VOTES IN BY-ELECTIONS - MUHABI

Zambia We Want spokesperson Muhabi Lungu says he does not believe in conjecture, wondering why Citizens First (CF) leader Harry Kalaba and his party have been getting 3 votes in some by-elections if he claims to be a political giant.

In an interview yesterday in Lusaka, Lungu said 10 key opposition parties, including the top five in the 2021 general elections, with the exception of CF, have been meeting to strategise on how to work together.

Asked on his statement that President Hakainde Hichilema benefited from splits in MMD, and why Kalaba or any other could not benefit from the wrangles in the main opposition PF, Lungu responded: “On what basis given the fact that he (Kalaba) got O.

Kambwili's wife shocks, disappoints HRC

By Mubanga Mubanga

Human Rights Commission (HRC) spokesperson Mweelwa Muleya says he is shocked and disappointed with the remarks made by Chishimba Kambwili's wife, Carol, that HRC is a scum.

Earlier this week, Muleya issued a statement to the effect that the HRC had visited Kambwili in prison and his health did not require him to be evacuated out of the prison medical facilities.

But in reaction, Carol, in an interview with Daily Revelation on Tuesday, said HRC was a scum that was being used to tell the nation lies about Kambwili’s health status.

And in response to Carol's remarks yesterday, Muleya wondered how the convict's wife could today say the HRC, which had always stood

Be patient during fuel shortage, Matambo urges C/Belt residents

By Chinoyi Chipulu

A fuel shortage has hit some parts of the Copperbelt Province resulting in long queues at most service stations.

The shortage of fuel particularly diesel, which started on Monday has affected the transportation industry in the province.

Copperbelt province minister Elisha Matambo said the government was aware of the issue and the situation would normalise in the next

ZESCO LOOK TO PUT SCANDAL BEHIND

By Kalumiana Kalumiana

The 2025/2026 FAZ Super season enters Week 2 this weekend with Zambia's two CAF envoys ZESCO United aiming to put the scandal of their controversial Week 1 game behind while defending champions Power Dynamos seek their first competitive win of the 2025/2026 season.

Last seasons runners-up ZESCO literally usurped Power in the headlines after they were docked points by the Zambia Premier League for falsifying registration details.

This is after Zesco registered an astonishing 20 players heading into last Saturday's Week 1 League home game against Konkola Blades that ended scoreless at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

Blades were handed a 3-0 and ZESCO

Failure to arrest Maria Zaloumis has nothing to do with her mother - Sishuwa

The real reason why the Zambia Police won’t arrest Maria Zaloumis

By Sishuwa Sishuwa

The failure by police to arrest Maria Zaloumis in connection with the murder of 22-year-old Eric Simfukwe has little to do with the status of her mother, Hichilema’s former personal lawyer and Electoral Commission of Zambia chairperson, Mwangala Zaloumis.

It has much to do with ethnic-regional considerations. Zaloumis is Lozi from Western Province while the victim is from Northern Province. Under Hichilema’s rule, high-profile arrests and prosecutions are largely reserved for crimes committed by people from Eastern and the Bemba-speaking provinces of Luapula, Muchinga and Northern – the Chambishi-Luangwa region that has historically voted for the main opposition Patriotic Front.

Zambians from the Tonga-speaking Southern, Lozi-speaking Western, and multiethnic (Kaonde, Luvale, and Lunda) Northwestern provinces – the Zambezi region that has historically supported Hichilema– appear to enjoy amnesty even when the offenses committed are similar.

Please join me in waiting for the Zambia Police Service to prove me wrong by arresting Maria Zaloumis – alongside the suspects already arrested.

Worsening blackouts in the country

Finance minister Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane says the government is enhancing electricity supply reliability by adding 125 megawatts renewable energy to the national grid.

In a media statement issued on Sunday, Musokotwane argued that the country’s economic and social transformation agenda was firmly on track, with tangible progress across all pillars of the 8NDP

"Investments in renewable energy added 125MW to the national grid, enhancing supply reliability and opening opportunities for green investments – the Chisamba and Mailo solar projects are now live. 19,619 new customers were connected to electricity in the second quarter alone," Musokotwane stated. "14 new communication towers were installed, plus 525 Starlink units deployed to rural areas nationwide, expanding internet access and digital services."

While Musokotwane talking about adding 125MW to the nation grid is a good thing, however, the sad reality is that the same isn’t being felt by the ordinary masses right now. Just a few days before that announcement, the country’s utility company actually announced further blackouts of 19 hours daily load shedding due to the megawatts that will be knocked from the system on account of the maintenance works at Maamba Collieries. This means that with the five hours, Zambians now only have access to 20 percent electricity supply. The furthest they have enjoyed in terms of electricity supply for a very, very long time is 7 hours at most, or 29.1 percent. In short, blackouts have now become an unwanted part of this nation’s way of living, with devastating repercussions.

President Hakainde Hichilema castigated his predecessors for being visionless and as the Chimbwi with no plan to address the nation’s problems, mourning how they had failed to address the country’s energy needs, when countries like Saudi Arabia, which was situated in the desert had found solutions, it seems he too has failed to find the solutions to the crippling blackouts affecting the country.

We wonder where the Hichilema who proclaimed that electricity was the necessity of life has gone to, when the blackouts have now become part of everyday life of the people he is presiding over. And while Zambians are enduring the darkness, our friends in neighboring countries such as Zimbabwe are now lightening up with people enjoying 21 hours of daily access to electricity due to appreciable water levels in water bodies such as the Kariba Dam, which is shared between the two countries.

HRC BEING USED TO LIE AGAINST KAMBWILI – WIFE
… They want him to rot in prison. I’ll hold them responsible

The Human Rights Commission (HRC) is a scum that is being used to tell the nation lies about Chishimba Kambwili’s health status, says his wife, Carol.

And Carol yesterday said she would blame the government and the prison authorities should anything happen to her husband as they have placed him in prison cells to rot from his ill-health.

Speaking to Daily Revelation on to the statement by HRC that the Zambia Correctional Service was facilitating medical access to Kambwili, and that the HRC was not privy to any report indicating that his health needs were beyond the capacity of medical personnel attending to him, Carol charged that the HRC was a

Linos pays tribute to late Zifa

By Kalumiana Kalumiana

Linos Makwaza has paid tribute to his ex-Power Dynamos teammate and defender Zifa Nkhoma, who died yesterday in Kitwe, who never missed a football game in the city despite being visually challenged over the last half a decade.

Nkhoma, 55, passed away on Monday evening at Kitwe Teaching Hospital after a long illness.

The ex-defender, with the aid of his son, never let his visual disability stop him from attending football matches in Kitwe and was a constant figure on match day at both Nkana Stadium and Arthur Davies Stadium where he both played during his football career.

Makwaza said in an interview yesterday in Kitwe that Nkhoma exhibited a true love for

Zambia has lost credibility following impasse over Lungu - Siamunene

By Chinoyi Chipulu
Former defence minister Richwell Siamunene says the country has lost credibility for failing to settle the impasse between the government and the family of late president Edgar Lungu.

Siamunene said this impasse was painting a bad picture to the outside world.

Siamunene was speaking on Radio Christian Voice on a program dubbed Chatback on Monday that after 2026, a new Zambia must be born where people who had political differences should not culminate to enemies.

The former minister was asked what his opinion was on Lungu's case currently and the picture it was giving to the nation. In response, he said the picture it was giving to the outside world
