CHIENGI MP ARRESTED FOR OFFENCE OF COMMON ASSAULT

Police have today formally arrested and charged Chiengi Independent Member of Parliament Given Katuta for the offence of Common Assault.

This followed after police at Emmasdale Police Station on the July 21,2023 received a report bordering on Common Assault from Times of Zambia Photo Journalists Henry Chunza aged 41 of Minestone Ng'ombe Compound to the effect that, while on duty at parliament premises he was commonly Assaulted by Ms. Katuta.

Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga says brief facts of the matter are that Ms. Katuta was ordered by the Speaker of the National Assembly Nelly Mutti after being suspended from the house for one week.

Mr. Hamoonga says as she was going out and a journalist was taking photos of her.

He says this irritated her and she started screaming at the journalist, spat in the face of the journalist, manhandled him with the help of other members of parliament and later forced him to delete the pictures.

Mr. Hamoonga says among the members of parliament that the complainant identified is Chawama Member of Parliament Tasila Lungu.

He says police instituted investigations into the matter which calumniated in her arrest today.

Mr. Hamoonga says the Suspect has been detained in custody waiting to meet the Police bond conditions before being released.

CONFUSION HITS LUSAKA CITY MARKET OVER ALLOCATION OF STANDS

Confusion has hit City Market due to double allocation of trading spaces as owners of the perpetuated vacant spaces resurface.

Some of the vendors who were recently evicted from trading in the Central business district say that they are encountering challenges in settling in city market as people with full documentation have continued to resurface claiming ownership of the alleged vacant spaces.

They have called on then Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to expedite the commissioning of the Simon Mwewa Lane Market to ensure effective transitioning of designated trading in the city.

CHILDREN INTERNATIONAL LAUNCHES SOCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY PROJECT STRATEGY

Children International has launched social accountability project strategy at Kanyama General Hospital aimed at ensuring families hold governments accountable for reliable and quality health services.

Speaking during the launch, Children International officer in charge Maurice Shakwamba said the strategy will allow families to participate in identifying challenges and seeking shared solutions to improve quality of health services using the community score card.

Mr. Shakwamba said the engagement with young people in the social accountability program will promote participation and making critical decisions among young people concerning health.

And Kanyama General Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. Wilson Mbewe says the Lusaka District Health office through Kanyama Sub District will support the improvement of quality health services through social accountability by using the community score card tool.

ICOF TARGETS PROVIDING EDUCATION TO 27, 000 VULNERABLE STUDENTS BY 2026

International College of Fellowships (ICOF) says it is targeting over 27,000 students by 2026 from vulnerable families to study various fields.

ICOF Africa Campus Vice Chancellor Professor Charles Mwape the institution in partnership with government has made strides in providing education to the vulnerable students countrywide.

He has said that the program which started last year has been a success and 12000 students are doing various programs.

Professor Mwape has called on various universities and colleges to come on board and partner with ICOF to allow more youth to attain education.

He was speaking during the signing of memorandum of understanding between Nkana Academy College of Education and Health Sciences and ICOF.
