POLICE have arrested a 72 year old man for allegedly defiling his four year old granddaughter of Chikokonto village in Chongwe District.

Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said on October 29, 2023 around 22:30 hours a concerned member of the public heard a voice of a girl crying and pleading with the suspect to leave her alone.

He said the victim was left in the custody of the suspect after her mother went out of town for medical attention.

"The concerned member of the public later on decided to inform a community based worker Winfridah Bungali of the same village about the incident.

Together they went to the suspect’s house and forced the door open, the man was found in the act while the victim was still crying. The child was taken to Chongwe District Hospital for medical attention and later to a safe house," he said.

Mr Hamoonga said police visited the scene of crime and secured the place for investigations.

He said the suspect is in police custody and will appear in court soon.

SEAN TEMBO ARRESTED FOR HATE SPEECH

Police in Lusaka have arrested Opposition Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP) leader Sean Tembo aged 43 of Ngwerere area in Lusaka in connection with the offence of Hate speech contrary to section 65 of the Cyber-security and Cyber-crimes Act number two of 2021 of the Laws of Zambia.

Facts of the matter are that on October 17, 2023 at 20:31 hours, the suspect posted a hate speech on page under the name of Sean E. Tembo.

Police Deputy Spokesperson Danny Mwale says Tembo was served with a call out to report himself to Police Headquarters on October 23, 2023 but he did not show up.

He says police further made efforts to contact his lawyer but the calls went unanswered despite making commitments that they would avail their client to Police.

Mwale says police officers today, around 09:00 hours went to his house where he was requested to come out but instead he opted to lock himself inside the house forcing the officers to have no option but to gain entrance into his house.

He says police managed to pick the suspect and is currently detained in custody yet to be formally charged.

And Police in Lusaka have arrested Stardy Mwale aged 53 of Chinfunshi area in Chililabombwe in connection with the offence of Seditious Practices contrary to section 57 as read with section 60 of the Penal Code.

"Brief facts are that between October 12, 2023 and October 17, 2023, the suspect posted an audio on various social media platforms where he was heard instructing millers in the country to stop the production of mealie meal for 30 days and other sentiments meant to entice the millers to revolt against the government.

"The suspect is detained in custody waiting to be formally charged," he said.

MILES SAMPA IS NOT PF SAYS LUSAKA HIGH COURT

The Lusaka High Court has granted an injunction to the Patriotic Front against expelled member Miles Sampa.

The Court has restrained Mr. Sampa to stop masquerading as a member of the Patriotic Front or as a leader of the Patriotic Front.

In an exparter order, the Court has restrained Mr.Sampa from holding himself as a member of the Patriotic Front or leader of the Party.

Following the suspension of Sampa he proceeded to hold the so-called Extra-Ordinary Conference against the provisions of the Party Constitution.

The party has since expelled Sampa.

The Party has requested that the Speaker of National Assembly declare the Matero Seat vacant immediately.
