Maureen Mwanawasa eulogized!

Chief Justice Mumba Malila has eulogized former first lady Dr. Maureen Mwanawasa for the role she played in Zambia’s justice system and for being a composed and articulate advocate.

Speaking during the valedictory session for the late former first lady at the supreme court in Lusaka today, Dr. Malila explained that when she appeared before the courts, Dr. Mwanawasa exuded professionalism and ethics.

He says Dr. Mwanawasa was a champion for equal rights and opportunities for women and girls and that despite her high position in society, she once served on the law association of Zambia’s Women Rights Committee.

Dr. Malila also said the late former first lady was a volunteer advocate for women and children’s causes with the national legal aid clinic for women adding that while she practiced at Mwanawasa and Company, she appeared in the courts on pro bono briefs from disadvantaged women and girls.

He says Dr. Mwanawasa has left behind a lasting impression on the country and the legal profession as her dignified and warm demeanor as first lady inspired many people in the legal profession and beyond.

And Attorney General Kabesha Mulilo eulogized Dr. Mwanawasa for her dedication to public service and commitment to elevating the lives of people especially the vulnerable.

The valedictory session for Dr. Mwanawasa who was a lawyer was held to recognize her achievements, contributions and legacy in the legal fraternity.
