IBA boss' killers in court today

TWO Lusaka-based police officers along with an accountant and an angineer are this morning scheduled to appear in he Lusaka High Court to take plea in a matter they are accused of gruesomely murdering Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) Director General, Guntila Muleya.

The case will be presided over by Judge Vincent Siloka at 09:00 hours.

On the morning of July 24 last year, the nation woke up to the grim discovery of Muleya's body bearing gun-shot wounds Njolwe area on the outskirts of Lusaka.

Days later, authorities rounded up Mithusani Basa Dokowe, 29, a police officer, Caleb Zulu, 30, a police officer of Libala south, Samuel Basa Dokowe, 37, an assistant Engineer and Francis Chipyoka,42, an Accountant of Foxdale and charged them with murder Contrary to Section 200 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

It is alleged that Dokowe, Zulu, Samuel and Chipyoka in Lusaka jointly and whilst acting together with other persons unknown murdered Muleya.

Nawakwi dies after struggling with an illness! What a way of starting the day!!

In 1998, Nawakwi, an economist, made history as she became the first woman to hold the post of Minister of Finance in Zambia and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region in 1998.

Born in 1959 in Mwenzo, Northern Province of Zambia, she had had a distinguished career in politics and economics.

Nawakwi held a degree in Agriculture Economics and Business Management from the University of Zambia and a post-graduate diploma in Economics of Energy and Development from Imperial College London.

She served under President Frederick Chiluba, making her the first female to occupy this position in Zambia's history.

She had also held roles such as Minister of State for Energy & Water Development, Minister of Energy & Water Development, Minister of Agriculture, Food & Fisheries, and Minister of Labour & Social Security between 1992 and 2001.²

Nawakwi was once married to Geofrey Hambulo and had three children. Tragically, her son Hatamba Hambulo was murdered in 2013.

Despite personal challenges, she remained a prominent figure in Zambian politics.

FAZ APPOINTS HAUPTLE AS NEW COPPER QUEENS COACH

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has appointed Swiss national Nora Hauptle as Copper Queens coach on a three year deal.
FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga says Hauptle had been hired to consolidate on the gains made in the women’s game.

“We are excited to announce the appointment of Nora Hauptle as the new Zambia Women National Team coach. We have every reason to believe that she has the pedigree and profile that will take us to the next level,” says Kamanga.
“Her duty is to consolidate on the gains made in our women’s game in the last few years that has seen us win bronze at the WAFCON, qualify to a maiden FIFA World Cup in 2023 and back-to-back Olympic qualifications.”

The former Swiss defender is expected to be unveiled soon.

The new Copper Queens coach had a distinguished career as a defender in Europe and represented Switzerland at international level before retiring in 2009.

She took up coaching and notably drilled SC Sand in the German Frauen-Bundesliga, in 2020, where she was, at the time, the only female coach in the league. Hauptle left SC Sand in 2021 before being appointed Black Queens coach in 2022.
Kamanga says Hauptle’s predecessor Bruce Mwape will be re-assigned in a different capacity in the developmental teams.
“We also wish to thank Bruce Mwape for the work done since his appointment in 2018 which has seen the team qualify to the World Cup and two Olympics (Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024). He remains a core member of our wider technical development program as we secured a CAF Pro License course for him as part of our collaboration with the Royal Morocco Federation. He will become the second Zambian coach to undertake the CAF Pro License after Wedson Nyirenda,” he says.

The Copper Queens have already qualified for the 2024 WAFCON (to be played in July 2025) that takes place in Morocco.

Dandy Krazy dies at 47

Celebrated music artiste, Dandy Krazy has died, the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) has confirmed.

In a statement issued by UTH Adult Hospital public relations officer Nzeba Chanda announced that the 47 year old artiste whose official name is Wesley Chibambo died at 01:42 hours on this morning.

"Mr Chibambo who sustained multiple injuries in a road traffic accident, was admitted to the UTH-Adult in the early hours of yesterday. He underwent an emergency operation later in the day. However, he remained in a critical condition despite various treatment interventions employed by our health staff.
He was certified dead at 01:42 hours this morning," Chanda stated.

"We wish to pass our sincere condolences to the family and public as they mourn their loved one."

Dandy Krazy was involved in a road traffic accident near Kapiri on the Great North Road which left him badly injured and four others deadbon New Year's Eve.

And the whole country, including different artistes, President Hakainde Hichilema and other politicians rallied in prayer for the Chintelelwe hit maker.

He may have transitioned to the next life but his music has immortalised his legacy from hits like "donchi Kubeba" which was instrumental during the 2011 general elections, an era that ushered in the PF Government under the leadership of Michael Sata.

And on Independence Day in 2011, President Sata bestowed the Grand Commander of the Order of Freedom award on Dandy Krazy for his popular PF campaign song “Don’t Kubeba.”

Dandy Krazy will be missed for more than his music but his humour as well.

Meanwhile, police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga identified two of the casualties who died on the spot in the road accident.

The deceased have been identified as Christopher Muyembe aged 30, a passenger from Lusaka West who was in the Toyota Allex with Dandy Krazy, and 25 year old Makofi Humphrey, the driver, hailing from Lusaka's Chalala.

"The identities of the other two deceased individuals remain unknown. These include: The driver of the Nissan Hardbody [and a] passenger from the Toyota Allex.

Hamoonga said the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Kapiri Mposhi General Hospital mortuary, awaiting formal identification and postmortem examinations.
