Binwell Mpundu admits to issuing the ‘I’m ready to kill’ warning
TONSE Alliance chairperson for presidential affairs Binwell Mpundu has u-turned and admitted that he is one who made a statement that he was “ready to kill” over Thursday's general elections.
Mpundu's admission came barely 24 hours after him and his boss Brian Mundubile had told the nation that video in which made the chilling threats were generated by Artificial intelligence (AI).
In a Facebook video recording last evening, Mpundu admitted that the video circulating on social media in which he made the remarks was genuine and not artificially generated, contrary to an earlier explanation.
The former Nkana lawmaker blamed what he called his media team for confusion surrounding the controversial video.
He explained that; initially his media team claimed the video was artificial intelligence-generated after it attracted public backlash because they had failed to reach him for clarification.
Mpundu said he was disappointed with his media team for misleading the public and his party president and NRPUP presidential candidate, Brian Mundubile, about the video.
“The truth is, this is a statement I made,” Mpundu said.
He said his original message was that he was prepared to die for the country and for the elections, adding that his statement about being ready to kill was made in the context of protecting himself.
“From where I come from, I made a statement in which I said I am ready to die for my country. I'm ready to die for these elections,” he said.
Mpundu said he had previously expressed his willingness to be killed in the course of defending what he believes in.
However, he explained that the phrase “I am ready to kill” was intended as a self-defence statement rather than an expression of willingness to deliberately kill people.
“The statement I am ready to kill is more of a self-defense, statement,” Mpundu said.
