GIRL FROM MATERO NABBED FOR FAKING HER ABDUCTION
As the abduction of the 13 girls held captive in Chalala and were rescued amid confusion whether it was the Police who cracked the case or because of good samaritans aiding one of the abducted girls who escaped and cried for help, is still freshly ingrained in Lusaka residents' minds, a 19 year old girl took advantage of the case and staged an abduction with her boyfriend.
The young lady was reported missing by her worried uncle named Brighton Mwamba, aged 38. The concern was caused because the suspect told the family she was going to church in Soweto on Sunday but did not return home.
Whilst the panicked family worriedly searched every nook and cranny for the teenager, the girl was at her boyfriend's house in Lilanda West, Matero, where the two expanded on the plan of a fake abduction.
The two young love birds hatched a story in which the girl was injected with some unknown substance that made her become unconscious, after which she woke up in an unfamiliar place.
Once they had their tale, the boyfriend proceeded to call a different uncle of the girl by the name of Sitima Tasi, who stays in Chongwe. The boy demanded a sum of K50,000, which if not paid, would end the girl's life in 48 hours.
On the 17th of October, 2022 around 12:00 hours, an aunt to the girl, by the name of Dainess Banda, aged 34, called the victim's number, who surprisingly picked up and told her aunt that she did not know where she was, but that the building she was held in had no windows, only a door.
She proceeded to tell the aunt that there were ten other girls in starving condition being kept in captivity with her.
In the meantime, the Police had been thoroughly investigating in the background, which led them to the girl's boyfriend's house. They found and retrieved her on Wednesday October the 19th.
Rae Hamoonga, the Zambia Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident and indicated that the teenager was detained at Matero Police Station and will appear in court soon. There was no mention of the boyfriend having been arrested as well for collusion.
The Police charged and arrested the teenager with the offence of Cheating, Contrary to Section 311 of the Penal Code Act Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
Hamoonga further warned potential offenders of this nature, to desist from such vices; as the police will not treat such falsehoods with kid gloves.
"Whoever shall be found wanting will be made to face the full wrath of the law."
"We are encouraging the citizenry to join hands with the Police in the fight against crime for the betterment of our society," Hamoonga added.
