Theme: Is the ISCZ Constitution Inconsistent with the Republican Constitution?
The long-awaited journey has finally begun, despite the Islamic Supreme Council of Zambia (ISCZ) being taken to court.
The Lusaka Muslim Youth LMY Media Team covered the conference symposium convened to address this important matter.
Dr. Shaban, the Acting President of ISCZ, presented himself before the Muslim community in Zambia and explained the leadership structure and foundational framework of ISCZ, drawing from questions submitted by members of the public.
He guided the audience through specific sections of the ISCZ Constitution and clarified that, in his view, it does not conflict with the Republican Constitution of Zambia.
Following his presentation and explanations, the audience listened attentively, taking notes and preparing questions that reflected concerns many Zambian Muslims hold regarding the ISCZ Constitution.
In the final session, questions were raised to give voice to the voiceless, and they were addressed openly and directly. Alhamdulillah, it was evident that many of the grievances and negative perceptions previously held about Dr. Shaban and the ISCZ are gradually fading.
Dr. Shaban urged the public to refrain from being misled by negative narratives circulating on social media about ISCZ. He highlighted the council’s contributions, including mosque and infrastructure projects, facilitating Hajj, Ramadan programmes, ifṭār initiatives, and many other community services.
He called upon the Ummah to remain united and to take ownership of institutions meant to serve indigenous Zambian Muslims.
He concluded by informing the public that, after the court ruling, ISCZ will resume preparations for the General Assembly Convention.
Āmīn yā Rabb.
