Zambia Emerges as African Agri-Giant with Launch of $110 Million Glucose Plant

Zambia has catapulted into the ranks of Africa's top producers with the launch of a landmark $110 million glucose and starch plant. Built by the Trade Kings Group in Lusaka's Multi-Facility Economic Zone, the facility positions Zambia as only the third major producer on the continent, alongside Egypt and South Africa.

The plant is a major economic catalyst, set to create over 1,000 jobs and consume 126,000 tons of maize annually from local farmers. President Hakainde Hichilema hailed the project as a "chapter in our journey towards industrialization," underscoring the government's focus on attracting investment and creating inclusive growth. By adding value to local crops, the plant slashes import dependence and opens new export doors, signaling a new era for Zambian manufacturing.

🌿 Launch of GIZ Project: Promotion of Climate Smart Agriculture for Improved Productivity and Sustainable Livelihoods🌿

The Conservation Farming Unit is excited to announce the launch of a pilot program targeting the Central and Southern Provinces. The objectives of this project are to showcase innovations that improve smallholder farmer productivity and incomes by enhancing ecosystem services. This initiative aims to enhance agricultural practices in response to climate change, promoting sustainability and resilience within our farming communities.

NAMABANGA EARTH DAME REHABILITATED TO BOOST LIVESTOCK AND FARMING IN MUMBWA

OVER K366,000 has been invested in rehabilitating the Namabanga Earth Dam in Nagoma, Mumbwa District, under the Constituency Development Fund.

The Zambia National Service carried out the rehabilitation to provide an alternative water source for livestock and subsistence farmers affected by the 2023–2024 drought in Nagoma Constituency.

Mumbwa Town Council Public Relations Officer, Lusale Kaseba, stated that the project was designed to cushion the impact of the prolonged dry spell, which severely affected agriculture and livestock production in the area. She added that the council plans to construct more dams across the district to ensure year-round water access for both animals and smallholder farmers.

Meanwhile, Mumbwa District Fisheries and Livestock Coordinator, Dr. Bertha Kasanga, confirmed that the dam is already benefiting over 3,000 cattle, significantly enhancing the livelihoods of local farmers.
