Veteran Musician Petersen Zagaze Calls for Collaboration Between Old and New School Artists

By Exildah Phiri

Veteran musician Petersen Zagaze has underscored the importance of collaboration between seasoned and new school artists in driving the growth of the music industry.

Speaking on the Power Breakfast Show, Petersen, whose real name is Mukubesa Mundia emphasized that knowledge sharing and partnership between generations of artists play a vital role in strengthening both individual careers and the industry at large.

He acknowledged that while some established artists may be reluctant to share their experiences for fear of competition or exploitation, building genuine relationships and a sense of community could create a more supportive environment.

Petersen urged upcoming artists to remain open to learning from their more experienced counterparts, while also noting that veteran musicians equally stand to benefit from the creativity and technological know-how of the younger generation.

Citing his own collaboration with the Dope Boys, Petersen explained that mutual respect, trust, and open communication have helped both sides grow and learn from one another.

He concluded that such an approach, if applied across the industry, would promote collective growth, innovation, and long-term success.

Zambia's government says it will seek more compensation for communities affected by a toxic spill from a Chinese-owned copper mine, if it is needed following a full assessment.

The spill of highly acidic mine-waste laden with toxic heavy metals happened in February when a dam that held waste from the Sino-Metals Leach Zambia copper mine collapsed, polluting a key river that is a major source of drinking water.

The firm apologised and pledged to compensate the victims but Zambia's Vice-President Mutale Nalumango says that "may not be all", adding that the safety of Zambians was "non-negotiable".

Some embassies have warned their citizens to avoid the area due to the health risks.

Sino-Metals Leach Zambia mine is a subsidiary of China Nonferrous Metal Mining Group, which is owned by the Chinese government.

Zambia dismisses US health warning after toxic spill in copper mining area
The company had initially reported that only 50,000 tonnes of waste material had spilled into waterways that connect to the Kafue River, near the northern city of Kitwe.
