Lusaka, Tuesday, July 29, 2025 โ The Zambia Police Service wishes to confirm that Kalingalinga Police Post is investigating a case of suspected murder involving a female adult whose body was discovered this morning.
The incident was reported today, July 29, 2025, at approximately 05:30 hours by Mervis Chinsungwe, aged 55, of Kalingalinga Compound. She reported that around 05:00 hours, she discovered the naked body of an unidentified female lying in the unfenced yard of her residence.
Police officers immediately visited the scene and confirmed the presence of a dead female adult lying on the ground. The body was naked and in a state of rigor mortis. Notable observations included hematomas around the neck area, suggestive of possible strangulation. A pair of torn underwear believed to belong to the deceased was found in two separate pieces near the body.
Additionally, a torn t-shirt was discovered approximately one meter away from the body.
There were no visible signs of struggle on the ground, despite the surface being sandy and loosely packed with stones. Preliminary interviews conducted with the occupants of the house revealed that none of them heard any noise or disturbance during the night.
Following community engagement, the deceased was positively identified by Annie Lungu, a 53-year-old female and aunt to the deceased, as Nalishebo Sikundu, aged 31, also of Kalingalinga Compound. It has been established that the deceased had recently moved out of her aunt's home and was living on her own at the time of her death.
The body has since been transported to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem examination to establish the actual cause of death.
An inquiry file has been opened and investigations are ongoing. Members of the public with any information that may assist in this case are urged to come forward and cooperate with the Police.
The Zambia Police remains committed to ensuring justice is served and continues to appeal for calm and vigilance within the community.
