I Was Numb When My Father Died — KB

By Muzamba Siandizya

There is a certain emptiness that comes with losing someone you love. Life continues, but somehow, it never feels quite the same. You wake up knowing that the person you once called, laughed with or looked up to is no longer there. And sometimes, the hardest part is accepting that you have to live the rest of your life without them.

For KB, that reality came with the loss of his father. Speaking on the Kenny T 1 on 1 podcast, KB opened up about losing his father at a time when he was still trying to find his place in life.

He was only 23, already a young father with another baby on the way. He was still figuring things out when he suddenly had to face life without his own father.

KB admitted that when his father died, he was numb. The loss did not fully register immediately. It was only years later that the reality of his father’s death truly sank in and even now, he says he misses him every day.

That is the painful thing about grief. Sometimes it does not come all at once, it can hit you years later, in the quiet moments, when you realise there is someone you would give anything to speak to just one more time.

You move on with life, but you never really stop missing them. For KB, losing his father was not just about saying goodbye. It was about learning how to become a man and a father himself without having his own father there to guide him.

And perhaps that is what makes grief so difficult life keeps moving, but a part of you will always wish they could have stayed for the journey.

MQHZ URGES MEN TO TEST FOR HIV

Medical for Quality Healthcare in Zambia (MQHZ) has called on men to take greater responsibility for their health by testing regularly for HIV and seeking treatment early if they test positive.

Speaking in an interview with Power FM News, MQHZ Director General Quince Mwabu says increased male participation in HIV services is critical in reducing new infections and addressing the continued burden of HIV among women.

Dr Mwabu says women accounted for 64 percent of people living with HIV in 2025, while young women made up 79 percent of new HIV infections among adolescents and young people aged 15 to 24.

He stated that men should not wait until they become sick before getting tested, as regular testing and early treatment can protect their health and reduce the risk of transmitting HIV to their partners.

Dr Mwabu has also urged the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders to strengthen community-based HIV testing, prevention and treatment services.

He stated that young people, women and men must be able to access quality and confidential healthcare without unnecessary barriers.

Meanwhile, MQHZ has welcomed the reduction in AIDS-related deaths from an estimated 66-thousand in 2005 to 16-thousand in 2025.

Dr Mwabu says the decline shows that expanded HIV testing, early diagnosis and access to antiretroviral treatment are saving lives.
