I initially chose business over a career in the arts due to the perception that artists are seen as non-thinkers, mere entertainers for the masses, while the "real" thinkers decide civilization’s fate.
This belief made me hesitant to pursue the arts. Even after entering the field, I distanced myself from those seen as mindless entertainers. However, as I matured, I learned to value my role as an artist.m and then I begun to appreciate even those that weren’t conventionally intelligent thinkers. They were intelligent in a different way. Just as I am.
Creatives should not be limited to being court jesters. Being an artist is significant; we bring joy, excitement, and empathy to people's lives. Despite some artists having lower literacy levels due to sacrificing education for their passion, they can have made meaningful contributions and offer unique solutions to societal issues.
Art plays a vital role in society. If artists were allowed to be true to their craft without judgment, society could benefit immensely. This is why I pay tribute to Wezi M'hone for representing us in this extraordinary interview hosted by our respected lawyer and my dear cousin, Linda Kasonde.
