JOINT STATEMENT BY THE NATIONAL THEATRE ARTS ASSOCIATION OF ZAMBIA (NATAAZ), THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR MEDIA ARTS (NAMA), AND THE COMEDIANS ASSOCIATION OF ZAMBIA (COAZ) ON THE UNTIMELY DEMISE OF MR. ROBAM MWAPE, POPULARLY KNOWN AS “MWINE MUSHI”
It is with deep sorrow and a profound sense of loss that the National Theatre Arts Association of Zambia (NATAAZ), the National Association for Media Arts (NAMA), and the Comedians Association of Zambia (COAZ) announce the passing of Mr. Robam Mwape, fondly known to many as Mwine Mushi. He passed away yesterday, Monday, 22nd September 2025, in Solwezi, where he was based until his death.
On behalf of the arts fraternity, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the Mwape family and the nation at large. Mr. Mwape was an accomplished screen and theatre actor, as well as a celebrated comedian, whose artistry and wit entertained and inspired audiences across Zambia and beyond. His passing is not only a blow to the creative industry but to the cultural identity of our country.
In his honor, vigils will be held as follows:
* Lusaka: Lusaka Playhouse on Wednesday, 24th September 2025 at 17:00 hours
* Copperbelt: Kitwe Little Theatre on Wednesday, 24th September 2025 at 17:00 hours
We encourage all artists and members of the public to gather with us during these vigils to celebrate his life and contribution to the arts.
