ZIIMA’s new website, ziima.org is now officially public.

The platform gives open access to our current work on media freedom, governance, civic education, and digital security. The site also hosts updates on our ongoing collaborations with partners across Zambia and the region.

ZIIMA is also preparing to launch a new podcast series featuring conversations with journalists, civil society leaders, researchers, and policymakers. Episodes will cover governance challenges, information access, digital rights, and insights from our AI Accountability project “Unseen Eyes”, supported by the Pulitzer Center.

THE Zambia Institute of Independent Media Alliance (ZIIMA) has been selected by the Pulitzer Center as one of only four African organizations to receive the AI Accountability grant 2025!

Our project, “Unseen Eyes: Safeguarding Zambia’s Press Freedom from AI Surveillance,” will run from November 2025 to May 2026, investigating how facial recognition and predictive policing technologies are reshaping civic space and press freedom in Zambia.

Through real stories, community workshops, and a national policy dialogue, we aim to empower journalists, activists, and citizens to understand and resist the growing risks of AI-driven surveillance.

We’re honoured to represent Southern Africa alongside our fellow grantees from Kenya (Equiano Institute), Nigeria (PolicyLab Africa), and Senegal (CEDEM) — all working to make AI more ethical, transparent, and accountable across the continent.

ZIIMA CONDOLES WITH KWITHU FM ON THE DEATH OF LUNGOWE SIMBOTWE

LUSAKA – The Zambia Institute of Independent Media Alliance (ZIIMA) has learnt with sadness of the death of Ms. Lungowe Simbotwe, a journalist and News Caster at Kwithu FM.

Ms. Simbotwe, who served diligently at the station for two years, was known for her professionalism and dedication to quality journalism.

ZIIMA extends heartfelt condolences to her family, Kwithu FM management and staff, as well as the entire media fraternity.

We pray for God's comfort and strength for all those mourning her loss.

May her soul rest in peace.

Exploring New Opportunities, Building Stronger Partnerships

Today, the Zambia Institute of Independent Media Alliance (ZIIMA) held a successful courtesy meeting with the team from The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Zambia.

Our discussions focused on identifying areas where we can collaborate to strengthen youth empowerment, amplify impact stories, and build platforms that inspire and equip young people across Zambia.

This engagement marks the beginning of what we believe will be a meaningful partnership that brings together ZIIMA’s expertise in media, storytelling, and advocacy with the Award’s global framework for youth development.
