FAZ CLINCHES SA, BURUNDI FRIENDLIES

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has organised two international friendly matches for the Chipolopolo during the November FIFA Window.

FAZ General Secretary Machacha Shepande says the Chipolopolo will play the World Cup bound South Africa and Burundi as part of the teamโ€™s continued preparation for the Morocco 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

โ€œThe Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has organised two high profile international friendly matches for the Chipolopolo during the upcoming FIFA Window which runs from 10-18 November,โ€ says Shepande.
โ€œZambia will play South Africa on November 15 before heading to Bujumbura for the Burundi assignment three days later.โ€

He says the games would be important for Zambiaโ€™s AFCON preparation and all the top players will participate.

Shepande says FAZ was determined to ensure that the Chipolopolo turned up at the 2025 AFCON well prepared for the assignment.
Zambia is in Group A alongside Morocco, Mali and Comoros for the Morocco 2025 AFCON edition, which runs from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.

๐Ÿ’ฌ โ€œAgain, itโ€™s not a good result for us,โ€ said Kansanshi Dynamos head coach Zeddy Saileti after his side failed to hold onto a 1โ€“0 lead against Napsa Stars at Reiz Arena.

Despite taking the lead early in the second half through Francisco Madinga, the Mabanga Boys were pegged back by a late equalizer from Augustine Mulenga, leaving them still searching for their first win since returning to the MTN Super League.

Saileti admitted his team struggled to cope under pressure and called for more mental strength and killer instinct in front of goal.

Kansanshi Dynamosโ€™ search for their first victory of the 2025โ€“26 season continues after a one-goal advantage slipped against NAPSA Stars, settling for a 1โ€“1 draw

HAUPTLE SUMMONS 25 STARS FOR FINAL PREPS AHEAD OF NAMIBIA CLASH

Copper Queens Coach Nora Hรคuptle has named a 25-member provisional squad to face Namibia in back-to-back Morocco 2026 Women Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Zambia will be away to Namibia on October 22 in South Africa at the Dobsonville Stadium before hosting the Brave Gladiators on October 26 in Ndola at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.

The two sides will square off in a back-to-back duel with the winner booking a ticket to the WAFCON.

Top four teams at the WAFCON will qualify to the 2027 FIFA Womenโ€™s World Cup.

Zambia will be without CAF Women Footballer of the Year Barbra Banda who is out injured but Hรคuptle has enough cover amongst local and foreign-based stars.

The local stars enter camp on Thursday with the foreign-based players expected after their weekend matches for their respective clubs.

Hรคuptle will be looking to refine her pieces after having earlier summoned 42 players for a local camp in the first phase of preparation for the Namibia tie.

Zambiaโ€™s menโ€™s national football team head coach,๐—”๐˜ƒ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—บ ๐—š๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜, finds himself at the centre of a storm. Just two years after being hailed as the man who returned the Chipolopolo to the Africa Cup of Nations, the Israeli tactician now faces a growing chorus of discontent from sections of Fans and some officials.

The reason? Zambiaโ€™s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup a feat the country has ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ achieved in its footballing history.

Since independence in 1964, Zambia has produced memorable moments but also endured decades of near misses. The menโ€™s senior team remains absent from the worldโ€™s biggest football stage, while the ๐˜„๐—ผ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ปโ€™๐˜€ ๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐˜€ ๐—ฎ๐˜ ๐˜‚๐—ป๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ-๐Ÿญ๐Ÿณ ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐˜€๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ฟ ๐—น๐—ฒ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—น๐˜€
have proudly flown the flag at global tournaments. Even the menโ€™s under-17 and under-20 teams have enjoyed World Cup appearances.

Yet for the senior menโ€™s side, the dream remains unfulfilled.

When Grant was appointed on ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฎ ๐——๐—ฒ๐—ฐ๐—ฒ๐—บ๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฎ on a two-year deal, Zambia had just failed to qualify for three consecutive Africa Cup of Nations tournaments ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿณ, ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿต, ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿญ. Since the glory of 2012, when Hervรฉ Renard led the team to continental triumph, Chipolopolo had stumbled repeatedly, exiting at the group stage in both 2013 and 2015 without a single win.

Few remember that when Grant signed his contract,
the team for the next AFCON. Many before him Patrice Beaumelle, George Lwandamina, Wedson Nyirenda, Beston Chambeshi, Sven Vandenbroeck, Aggrey Chiyangi, Aljoลกa Asanoviฤ‡, and Moses Sichone had tried and failed to bring Zambia back to the continental stage.

Grant, against all odds, did it on his first attempt.

Under his guidance, Zambia topped their qualifying group which included hosts
and booked a return to Africaโ€™s biggest football event. The achievement triggered an automatic contract extension clause, ensuring his stay
, following a second qualification for the His initial two-year contract, signed in 2022, ran until ๐——๐—ฒ๐—ฐ๐—ฒ๐—บ๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฐ, before the renewal took effect for another two years

However, success in football can be fleeting.

Zambiaโ€™s dismal form in 2025 winning only one game all year has soured public sentiment. The 1-0 home defeat to Niger in Ndola during the final round of World Cup qualifiers was the breaking point. The government swiftly responded by suspending financial support to the menโ€™s senior national team, citing โ€œpoor performance.โ€ With half of Grantโ€™s salary dependent on state funding, the decision places both the coach and the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) in an uncomfortable position.

The newly installed FAZ leadership under ๐—ž๐—ฒ๐—ถ๐˜๐—ต ๐— ๐˜„๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐—บ๐—ฏ๐—ฎ has been handed a seven-day ultimatum to justify why government support should continue.

It is easy to forget where Zambia was when Avram Grant arrived โ€” a nation with a broken football system, disillusioned fans, and a team that had become a shadow of the 2012 champions. Grantโ€™s achievement of ๐—ฏ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ธ-๐˜๐—ผ-๐—ฏ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ธ ๐—”๐—™๐—–๐—ข๐—ก qualifications should not be dismissed lightly.

Is it fair, then, to vilify the man who succeeded where others failed?

Critics point to poor tactics, uninspiring play, and a lack of local player development. Supporters of the coach, on the other hand, argue that ๐˜€๐˜๐—ฟ๐˜‚๐—ฐ๐˜๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—ถ๐˜€๐˜€๐˜‚๐—ฒ๐˜€, not coaching, are Zambiaโ€™s biggest handicap from inadequate grassroots investment to inconsistent administrative policies.

Avram Grant may not be flawless. No coach is. But the notion that Zambiaโ€™s current woes are entirely his fault is overly simplistic. When he took the job, it was a poisoned chalice one that many top coaches would have refused. He accepted, delivered AFCON qualification, and restored a measure of belief.

๐๐‘๐„๐€๐Š๐ˆ๐๐†: Cape Verde ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ป qualifies for the FIFA World Cup for the first time in their history.

by John Mbabala

Cape Verde have written a dramatic new chapter in their football history: the โ€œBlue Sharksโ€ have qualified for the FIFA World Cup for the first time, becoming the second smallest country ever to do so.

They delivered a commanding 3โ€“0 win over Eswatini to clinch the top spot in CAF Group D and seal their place among footballโ€™s global elite.

The victory was not just a sporting triumph, but also a moment of national celebration government permitted an early knock-off from work so fans could pour into the stands and streets to back their heroes.

Cape Verde emerged from a challenging group that included heavyweights such as Cameroon, Libya, Angola, and Eswatini.

With an estimated population of just over 500,000, Cape Verde now claims the distinction of being the second smallest country to ever qualify for the World Cup.

The only nation with a smaller population to ever appear at a World Cup is Iceland, which qualified for Russia 2018 while having a population of approximately 337,000.
