Zambia continues to face a range of public health challenges from disease outbreaks to health system strethening gaps and the effects of climate change on health. However, there are few or limited platforms that consistently inform, educate, and engage both professionals and the public on pressing health matters in an accessible, engaging format. Public Health Connect ZM, a podcast offers a dynamic platform for dialogue, learning, and collaboration. Topics include;

We did the needs assessment among adolescent for us to have a targeted interventions, and what was coming out is a true reflection of the many challenges that adolescents are going through. Adolescents need opportunities to meaningfully participate in the design and delivery of interventions to improve and maintain their health.

The team took time sensitize headmen in Nyawa Chiefdom of Kazungula district over early marriages and teen pregnancy__Global evidence shows that girls who delay marriage and childbearing reach a higher level of education which helps them to become more productive members of society, and contribute better to breaking the intergenerational cycle of poverty through investing in their own children. 🫶🏽

As WHO highlighted, to grow and develop in good health, adolescents need information, including age-appropriate comprehensive sexuality education; health services that are acceptable, equitable, appropriate and effective; and safe and supportive environments.

Adolescents also need opportunities to meaningfully participate in the “design” and “delivery” of interventions to improve and maintain their health.

Hence, expanding such opportunities is key to responding to adolescents’ specific needs and rights. As Center for Adolescent Health and Research Zambia we hosted a three days event with adolescents in Kazungula District and among topics discussed included;

- Stages and changes in adolescents
- Teen pregnancy and it’s complications (high teen pregnancy in the district)
- Prevention of STIs and HIV
- Existing Services under “adolescent friendly health services” AFHS

The fun and entertaining event had both adolescents in school and those out of school.
