COMESA explains value of partnerships

THE Common market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) has reaffirmed the importance of partnerships anchored on mutual trust, technical cooperation and shared aspirations in driving inclusive as well as sustainable growth.
COMESA Secretary General Chileshe Kapwepwe said partnerships were at this time particularly vital as economies are facing pressure from climate change, supply chain disruptions and geographical uncertainties.

Tayali calls for private sector participation in aviation sector
By KETRA KALUNGA -
GOVERNMENT has called for strong partnerships and meaningful private sector participation in the aviation sector and supporting infrastructure.
Transport and Logistics Minister Frank Tayali said Zambia’s National Transport Policy sets out a clear vision of transforming the country into a regional transport and logistics hub anchored on safe, reliable, sustainable and well-connected transport networks.

Copper Queens rise on FIFA world ranking

THE Copper Queens have gone up one place on the latest women’s FIFA Coca-cola world ranking to 64, one place better than their standing at the last release in August this year.
According to the rankings released yesterday, the Nora Häuptle drilled side still maintained fourth place in Africa.
The release showed that Zambia went up to 64, one of its highest rankings ever and can hope for a better ranking in the coming few months with the women’s Africa Cup of Nation (WAFCON) on the horizon.

Boxing duo storm semis

ZAMBIA’s boxing poster boy, Patrick Chiyemba, and his light-welterweight counterpart Emmanuel Katema have stormed the semi-finals of the ongoing International Boxing Association (IBA) World Championships in Dubai.
This was after each secured quarter-final victories in the respective weight categories, with this stage guaranteeing Zambia a medal.
On top of that, each boxer is assured of pocketing $75,000 (about K1.72 million) for reaching this stage.

CHIPOLOPOLO coach Moses Sichone believes the final team picked to compete at the Morocco 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) has the character and attitude to fight for the badge.
He described the atmosphere in camp ahead of the AFCON task as positive.

Parley concludes committee work on 2026 budget

PARLIAMENT has concluded committee work on the K253.1 billion, 2026 National Budget, with the House to proceed to consider the report on Friday, this week.
The consideration of all Heads of expenditure was concluded during the business of the House yesterday.
Finance and National Planning Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane presented the budget to the House in September this year, with among the key expenditure highlights being the elevation of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocation to K40 million per constituency.

‘Take interest in EV battery sector’

ZAMBIA Development Agency (ZDA) Director General Albert Halwampa says Zambian entrepreneurs should take interest in the electric vehicle battery industry being developed between Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the general surge in mining activities.
Mr Halwampa said during the Kitwe District Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KDCCI) annual award gala dinner in Kitwe at the weekend that ZDA would like to see a robust mining service industry thereby boosting the country’s fiscal buffers.
