Hammer mill operator caged 15 years for defiling minor (9)
By MAPULANGA LIBINGA -
THE Ndola High Court has sentenced a 20-year-old hammer mill operator of Ndola to 15 years imprisonment with hard labour for defiling a nine-year-old girl.
Misheck Chisala of Mushili Township was convicted and sentenced for one count of defilement of a child under the age of 16.
On November 30, 2024, the convict defiled the nine year old girl after she was left alone at home.

SHOPRITE Zambia has awarded 50 scholarships worth K200, 000 to sports administrators that will be picked to undergo a Zambia Premier League (ZPL) Certificate in Football Administration and Club Management course.
This was after the ZPL and the Zambia Institute of Sports (ZIS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish the ZPL Certificate in Football Administration and Club Management, which is accredited by TAVETA.

FIFA fines Zambia $3,000 over hooliganism

GOVERNMENT says it is unacceptable and embarrassing for Zambia to be repeatedly fined by FIFA due to hooliganism. Soccer fans have since been called upon to engage in serious introspection to address this issue, as football should serve as a unifying factor.

BOTSWANA’S Vice-President Ndaba Gaolathe has urged African countries to co-create solutions to advance the continent’s digital transformation.
Mr Gaolathe said digital transformation was a potent mechanism to stimulate regional cooperation for the continent to improve the lives of its population.
He said this during a special session of the 2025 Digital Government Africa (DGA) summit running under the theme; “Accelerating digital transformation for e-government” in Chongwe District yesterday.

HH says individuals found guilty of stealing medicines to face severe penalties By CYNTHIA NKHATA -
PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has issued a stern warning that individuals caught stealing medicines from public health facilities will not only face prosecution without the option of bail but also risk having their properties seized.
Mr Hichilema said that suspects involved in such crimes would be tried in the Economic and Financial Crimes Court.
“Individuals who are found guilty of stealing medicines will face prosecution without bail, and their properties — such as houses — may be seized if they are suspected to have been acquired through proceeds of crime,” President Hichilema stated.

FOREIGN Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Mulambo Haimbe is scheduled to represent President Hakainde Hichilema at the 24th Summit of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Heads of State and Government, set to take place in Kenya.
The summit, hosted in Nairobi, will be convened under the theme “Leveraging Digitalisation to Deepen Regional Value Chains for Sustainable and Inclusive Growth.”

‘Agro, forestry, fishing sectors record highest growth’

THE Zambia Statistics Agency (ZAMSTATS) announced that the agriculture, forestry, and fishing industries recorded the highest growth of 74.4 percent during the first and second quarters of 2025.
The agency also reported that accommodation and food services experienced significant growth, averaging approximately 19.2 percent in the first half of the year. Conversely, sectors such as water supply, wholesale and retail trade, and electricity experienced negative growth.

IG warns against incitement

THE Inspector General of Police Raphael Musamba has issued a stern warning to individuals planning to organise protests across the country, starting with a demonstration at Patriotic Front (PF) faction leader Robert Chabinga’s residence.
He warned that anyone involved in such activities would face the full force of the law.
Mr Musamba specifically referenced a Facebook post titled “PF to begin countrywide demonstrations until the State gives back PF,” which he described as inciting lawlessness.
He stated that the content of the post had repeatedly contained statements that could incite public disorder.

ZRA seizes truckload of smuggled whiskey

THE Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has confiscated a truck laden with smuggled whiskey valued at K7.7 million in unpaid taxes.
ZRA Corporate Communications Manager Oliver Nzala stated that vigilant officers intercepted a significant smuggling attempt involving a truck carrying thousands of bottles of Jameson Whiskey, describing it as one of the most audacious festive-season scams to date.
