Rip King 👑
REMEMBERING MY MASHINA!
The first time I met King Dandy, it was at the studio. It didn’t feel like the first time because immediately he cracked jokes and called me his namesake! He asked me, “Iwe Wezi, walishiba ati nanebo ndi mu Tumbuka ayi? Wesley na Wezi chimo chine?!” I laughed immediately and refused but he wasn’t lazy to talika me.
That encounter was a strong impression on me & I told anyone with ears about it whenever his song came on no matter where we were. Dandy Krazy made me feel like I was his friend for years within seconds of meeting him. His energetic personality & welcoming character made him one of the most lovable individuals I know in Zambian music. Everytime after my first encounter with him, he addressed me as, “My Mashina” & I just had to accept and respond. This went on for years!
As a music practitioner in Zambia, born and raised in Ndola, Copperbelt province, Dandy was one of the godfathers, he made us proud! He was authentic & original. Seeing him go out there & conquer the nation with his passion & talent, it was representation of the emerging talent & existing culture from the Copperbelt Province. It was him and his crew, Ba Danger Zone, Jerabo Unit and so on.
After learning about the unfortunate fatal accident he was involved in on New Year’s Eve, I prayed & convinced myself he will pull through, he is Dandy! My heart has sunk after learning that he succumbed to the injuries sustained in that accident. It’s a devastating loss!
I thank the university teaching hospital (UTH) for their efforts and care for him until his final moments. For communicating with the general public adequately during a very difficult and sensitive situation, I just wish that it was a different outcome.
I want to share my deepest and heartfelt condolences with all his loved ones, especially his wife & kids, his entire family, close friends, the Zambian music establishment, the arts and entertainment community & the fans!
Death reminds us all of our own mortality. Gone too soon ba Mashina! Till we meet again, rest in power & the everlasting Love of God.
