NACHILIMA DEMANDS OVER K21 MILLION IN DAMAGES FOR SON’S D£ATH
...as she drags Maria Zaloumis and Nathaniel Barthram to the High Court

Kabwe... Saturday September 26, 2025

A case involving the tragic d£ath of a young man allegedly t0rtured while in unlawful custody has reached the High Court, with the plaintiff seeking damages amounting to more than K21 million.

Grace Nachilima, the mother of the late Enock Simfukwe Kasengele, has filed a claim against Maria Zaloumis and Nathaniel Barthram, accusing them of gross negligence and vi0lent acts that led to her son’s d£ath in August this year.

Ms Nachilima is suing in her capacity as Administratrix of her son’s estate.

According to court filings, Kasengele was unlawfully detained on 16th August 2025, where he was subjected to severe b£atings and degrading treatment while restrained with r0pes.

He reportedly succumbed to a brain contusion the following day.

A postmortem report dated 20th August 2025 confirmed the cause of d£ath.

Lawyers representing Ms Nachilima from Patrick Chulu Legal Practitioners allege that a widely circulated video shows the defendants interrogating and assaulting Kasengele, despite his visible pain and repeated pleas for release.

The plaintiff argues that the actions of the defendants vi0lated the deceased’s constitutional rights to life and liberty.

Ms Nachilima further claims she has endured severe mental anguish and trauma, including tremors, after watching the video of her son’s torture.

She has since sought professional therapy to cope with the emotional distress.

The lawsuit demands compensation under several heads of damages:

Negligence causing death – K5 million

Dependency (Fatal Accidents Act) – K10 million

Loss of expectation of life – K3 million

Funeral expenses – K250,000

M£ntal anguish and trauma – K3,658,201

The total claim amounts to K21,908,201.

This case has sparked public debate, particularly as the circulating video has raised concerns over unlawful detention practices and human rights violations in Zambia.

Kabwe soldier awarded K18,000 in adultery case after catching wife holding hands with another man!

A soldier of Kabwe has been awarded K18,000 in compensation after the local court upheld his adultery claim against a man he found holding hands with his wife one night in Kapiri Mposhi.

Michael Bwalya, a resident of C Gate in Kabwe, narrated before Senior Local Court Magistrate Elias Kasonde at Kabwe One Local Court how he caught Maybin Myula with his wife, Rose Bwalya, in a compromising situation.

Bwalya told the court that he was first alerted by his eldest daughter, who informed him that his wife had a “husband” in Kapiri Mposhi.

Bwalya then travelled to Kapiri Mposhi with two companions, Sylvia Phiri and Humphrey Kayambe, to confirm the claims.

He said that after arriving around 20:00 hours, he was stunned to find his wife walking hand in hand with Myula.

“The moment they saw me, he released her hand. I was so upset, but I kept calm,” he told the court.
Bwalya said he followed the pair to Myula’s house, where Myula allegedly told him that Rose had claimed to be divorced for the past 15 years.

“I told them they should consider themselves married. I was so furious I almost killed him, but I restrained myself,” he said.

In his defence, Myula denied committing adultery, claiming he was only escorting Rose to buy medicine.

However, Magistrate Kasonde found Myula guilty and ordered him to compensate Bwalya K18,000, to be paid in monthly instalments of K1,000.

Prophet, Papas, and a Vanishing Blanket of Evidence!

In a courtroom scene fit for a soap opera, a magistrate has heard there isn’t enough clinical evidence to prove that Prophet John Nundwe better known in some circles as “John General”r**ed a woman who accuses him of the offense.

To add to the courtroom theatrics, the woman reportedly confessed to investigators that she “never even saw the accused’s manhood” during the alleged act she only felt it. Yes, you read that right.

Magistrate Amy Masoja-Chilangwa was told that the 26-year-old married complainant, whom we’ll call “ Chanda” to protect her identity, told police: “I didn’t see it, but I felt the prophet’s papas.”

The dramatic saga allegedly unfolded on November 24, 2023, when Nundwe, 52, arrived at Natasha’s home to pray for her, promising divine intervention for her struggles with childlessness. But instead of a miracle, the court heard that he forced himself on her—only to bolt from the scene completely naked when Natasha’s husband walked in. One can only imagine the husband’s face as the “man of God” sprinted away like a startled gazelle.

Arresting officer Wellington Fwalanga testified that after hearing the details, he “made up his mind” to arrest and charge Nundwe for r**e under Sections 132 and 133 of the Laws of Zambia.

But the defense wasn’t letting that slide. During cross-examination, lawyer Yokonia Daka pressed Fwalanga to read aloud the medical findings. The courtroom collectively raised its eyebrows when the report revealed no acute ge***al injury and no concrete proof of r**e.

“You agree that according to this report, there was no sufficient clinical evidence to support these allegations?” Daka asked pointedly.

Fwalanga, perhaps wishing for divine intervention himself at that moment, admitted: “Yes.”

The drama didn’t end there. When questioned about a fleece blanket supposedly stained with Natasha’s menstrual blood—an item that could have been a crucial piece of forensic evidence Fwalanga sheepishly admitted it was never tested.

As the courtroom buzzed with murmurs and side-eyes, one thing was clear: between missing evidence, vanishing blankets, and a prophet who allegedly fled in the n**e, this trial has all the elements of a courtroom comedy-drama that even Netflix couldn’t script better.

UPND COUNCILLOR BEATEN IN CHILUBULA WARD

By Kalombe Kapambwe

The ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) Kapambwe Ward Councillor, Joseph Kasongole, has been beaten by a mob after clashing with some electorates in Chilubula Ward, Mpulungu District, during the ongoing by-election.

The fracas began when Mr. Kasongole confronted a female voter on suspicion of possessing more than one National Registration Card (NRC).

He alleged that the NRCs were being collected and distributed by the NCP and PF on polling day.

However, the woman explained that she was carrying her own NRC along with that of her husband, who had remained at home but asked her to bring it so he could collect it when he came to the polling station to vote.

The confrontation quickly escalated, with the councillor being beaten by a mob before police officers intervened to rescue him.

The angry crowd accused him of being inciteful and vowed not to allow him near the polling station. Some mistook him for attempting to vote, though he clarified that he was accredited to monitor the process.

Meanwhile, voting is underway in Chilubula Ward, Mpulungu District, with a huge turnout of voters recorded as early as 05:30 hours at Kasalawe Polling Station.

By the time polls opened, over 100 people mostly women were already in the queue, and the first ballot was cast at exactly 06:05 hours.
