UPND Member Sparks Outrage After Insulting Apostle Sunday Online

A storm of criticism has hit the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) after one of its outspoken supporters insulted Apostle Sunday on social media in a heated post aimed at defending President Hakainde Hichilema.
The attack, which quickly went viral, has stirred widespread anger among Zambians, many of whom believe the incident reflects growing intolerance within the ruling party. It has also fueled speculation that President Hichilema may have influenced the controversial cancellation of the national prayer event that was scheduled for October 23, 2025, at the OYDC.
Although State House issued an official statement denying any presidential involvement in halting the event, the behavior of certain UPND members continues to contradict that narrative. Their remarks have cast doubt on the government’s stance and further deepened public mistrust.
Religious and civic leaders have condemned the insults, calling on the UPND to take swift action against members who are tarnishing the image of the party and undermining the president’s credibility.
Observers have warned that if left unchecked, such reckless conduct could erode the values of unity, respect, and democracy that the ruling party claims to uphold.
Meanwhile, members of the public continue to demand transparency and accountability over the cancelled prayer event, urging authorities to show, through actions rather than statements, that the government respects the nation’s freedom of worship.
