BREAKING NEWS: CHELLAH TUKUTA FACES K10 MILLION DEFAMATION SUIT OVER FACEBOOK POST

Lusaka, June 8, 2026 Political Watch

Social media commentator Chellah Tukuta has been served with a demand letter seeking K10 million in damages over alleged defamatory remarks published on his page, Chellah Tukuta Studios.

According to the letter seen by Zambia Political Watch, Lawyers representing businessman Kapalasa Phiri says Tukuta falsely claimed that Phiri benefited from government contracts through his alleged family relationship with former Cabinet Minister Garry Nkombo.

β€œGary gave all the contracts to Kapalasa his in-law, his sisters and his children.”

The legal team maintains that Kapalasa Phiri has never received any government contract through Garry Nkombo and describes the allegations as β€œwholly fabricated and untrue.”

The lawyers contend that the publication severely damaged their client’s reputation and was made maliciously under the headline, β€œGARY WAS A VERY GREEDY MINISTER,” which they say was designed to attract maximum public attention and ridicule.

The law firm has demanded the immediate removal of the post, a public apology to remain on the page for 30 days, a written undertaking against future publications of a similar nature, and payment of K10 million in damages.

The letter warns that failure to comply within seven days will result in court proceedings for defamation, aggravated damages, an injunction and legal costs.

Michael Chilufya Sata Hospital Construction to Resume After Re-Tendering

By Joseph Mapalo Kamanga

Residents of Mpika District have been given renewed hope following government’s confirmation that construction works on the long-awaited Michael Chilufya Sata General Hospital will soon resume after the project was re-tendered.

Muchinga Province Permanent Secretary Dr. Tuesday Bwalya said government remains committed to completing the health facility, which has remained unfinished for years despite its importance to the district and surrounding communities.
Dr. Bwalya explained that the hospital was initially designed to be completed in three phases. However, construction stalled after the completion of only Phase One, which comprised the administration block and staff offices.

β€œInstead of progressing through all the planned phases, the project stopped at Phase One,” he said.
The Permanent Secretary revealed that the Ministry of Health has since re-tendered the project, paving the way for the commencement of Phase Two works. This will later be followed by Phase Three, which includes the construction of staff housing.

He assured residents that government is working to expedite the project and ensure the hospital is completed in line with its original design.
Dr. Bwalya noted that once fully operational, the Michael Chilufya Sata General Hospital will greatly enhance healthcare service delivery in Mpika and surrounding areas by increasing the facility's capacity to accommodate and attend to more patients.
The development has been welcomed by residents, who have long awaited the completion of the hospital, which is expected to play a key role in improving access to quality healthcare services in the district and the wider Muchinga Province.
