UNZA Students Clash with Police During UNZASU Election Celebrations
Chaos erupted at the University of Zambia (UNZA) Great East Main Campus this morning as students ran amok while celebrating the outcome of the UNZASU elections for new office bearers.
According to Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga, over 1,000 students gathered within the campus grounds before proceeding onto Great East Road, intending to march to Manda Hill Shopping Mall and return to campus.
However, police redirected the students back through Nangwenya Road. The situation escalated when some students began throwing stones at police officers, prompting law enforcement to discharge a smoke canister to disperse the crowd.
Mr. Hamoonga confirmed that the situation has since been brought under control, with no further escalation recorded.
