If elections were held today UPND would still win - Muchima

HEALTH minister and Ikeleng'i Member of Parliament Elijah Muchima has reiterated that he has always been the sole winner of the parliamentary seat in his constituency since 2006, adding that if elections were held today, him and the entire UPND would still ace it.

This came to light when he was addressing rumours of him being chased from his constituency by his chief.

Muchima who denied to have been chased from his mother’s chiefdom stated that he could never be chased from that area as it was his baby which he has managed to keep since 2006.

In a viral video circulating on social media, Muchima is accused of running away from the scene after residents of that area told him to go back to Lusaka because of his alleged fake promises.

“I cannot, I can never be chased by anybody. I come from the chiefdom of senior chief Kanongesha. That’s where I come from, my mother’s side. Nobody can chase me. There is no conpetior for Elijah Muchima I win all the time. No matter what happens.”

“No one can challenge me, even if elections were held today I would still win and HH can still win. We have seen a lot of defectors coming from PF to the UPND so far," said Muchima.

Muchima who has been a member of parliament for 19 years in Ikeleng'i also stated that there is unprecedented development in his constituency which cannot make the people chase him.

ALCOHOL THE KILLER OF ZAMBIAN YOUTHS..

Alcohol addiction is indeed a significant issue in many parts of the world, including Zambia, where it has had a profound impact on individuals and communities. The widespread availability and social acceptance of alcohol have made it a leading contributor to "junkism"—a term that can describe lives negatively affected by substance abuse, wastefulness, and loss of potential.

In Zambia, as in many other countries, alcohol abuse is linked to various problems, including:

Youth Addiction: Many youths turn to alcohol as a means of escaping the pressures of life. It often begins with social drinking and escalates into dependency, leading to addiction, which affects their education, career opportunities, and overall well-being.

Family Breakdown: Alcohol addiction leads to strained relationships within families, often resulting in domestic violence, neglect, and abandonment. Many children are raised in environments where alcohol abuse is common, which can contribute to cycles of addiction across generations.

Health Issues: Alcohol abuse contributes to severe health problems, such as liver disease, mental health disorders, and increased vulnerability to HIV/AIDS, especially in vulnerable populations.

Economic Impact: People struggling with alcohol addiction often face difficulties maintaining employment or pursuing education. This, in turn, leads to poverty, as the financial resources are drained to sustain the addiction.

Crime and Social Disorder: Alcohol abuse often results in increased crime rates, especially related to drunk driving, theft, and public disorder. Many accidents and violent incidents in Zambia are linked to alcohol consumption.

Cultural and Social Pressures: In some Zambian communities, drinking alcohol is part of social rituals and celebrations. This cultural acceptance of alcohol makes it difficult to combat addiction, as youth may feel pressured to conform to the norms of drinking.

Spiritual Approach to Addressing Alcohol Addiction
Given the impact of alcohol on "junkism," prayer and spiritual intervention, alongside practical measures, can play a vital role in helping youths break free from the cycle of addiction. Here are some prayer points to specifically address alcohol-related addiction:

Praying for Freedom from Addiction:

Father, we ask for Your deliverance for every youth in Zambia who is trapped in alcohol addiction. Break the chains of dependency in Jesus' name.
Healing for Broken Families:

Lord, we pray for families torn apart by alcohol abuse. Bring healing, restoration, and reconciliation to these homes.
Health Restoration:

God, we pray for those whose health has been damaged by alcohol addiction. Restore their bodies, minds, and spirits and lead them to healthier living.
Wisdom for Leaders:

Father, give wisdom to community and church leaders in Zambia to create awareness and advocate for programs that combat alcohol abuse.
Strength for the Addicted:

Lord, grant strength and courage to those fighting alcohol addiction. Surround them with support systems and resources for recovery.
Breaking Cultural Chains:

Father, transform cultural norms around alcohol in Zambia. Help youths to reject the pressure to conform and instead live lives that honor You.
Economic Empowerment:

Lord, provide economic opportunities and skills training for those recovering from alcohol addiction, so they may build better futures.
Divine Intervention in Policy:

We pray for the government and policy-makers in Zambia to enforce laws and policies that regulate the harmful consumption of alcohol, especially among youths.
Combining these prayers with practical measures like education, rehabilitation programs, and community support can contribute to reducing the negative impact of alcohol addiction in Zambia.

JUNE INFLATION SLOWS BY 0.1%

The Zambia Statistics Agency (ZAMSTATS) has revealed that “annual inflation for June 2023 slowed down to 9.8 percent from 9.9 percent recorded in May, 2023.”
ZAMSTATS interim Statistician General Mulenga Musepa sais this was as a result of price Movements in Selected food items.
Mr Musepa says “annual food inflation for June 2023 was recorded at 11.2 percent compared to 11.6 percent in the previous month.”
He explained that “this out-turn was mainly attributed to price movements in Cereals (i.e. Maize grain, Samp, Cassava meal); Meat (i.e. Brisket, Mixed cut, Tbone, Beef Sausage); Milk (i.e. Fresh Milk Super Milk, Condensed Milk, Powdered Milk, Cheese); Vegetables (R**e, Cassava Leaves, Tomatoes, Green Beans, Eggplant, green pepper and Pumpkin) Cooking oil and Live chicken.”
