PATRIOTISM IS KEY TO SURVIVAL - Edgar C. Lungu

By Staff Reporter – Lusaka

President Lunga has said that patriotism is cardinal to the survival of the nation. The president said this during his inauguration ceremony speech at Heroes Stadium on 13th September, 2016 in Lusaka. Mr. Lungu confirmed to the nation that the government had a lot of unfinished business. However, Mr. Lungu also mentioned that he was persuaded beyond doubt that the government will continue to push even more vigorously to consolidate its transformative development agenda. “We must have a little more faith and confidence in our own abilities to change our adverse situations.” He said.

Mr. Lungu further called for the need to re-define the word investor to mean ourselves. “In my humble opinion, our first point of investment in this democratic enterprise must, as of necessity, begin with investing in ourselves.” Mr. Lungu said. In the same speech, the president said that he was directing everyone starting from the rank of director in government ministries and departments to engage in at least one agro-based activity. The president assured the nation that he would be committed to lead from the front starting with his staff at state house.
Mr. Lungu said that he appreciated each and every one who could find time to the ceremony. “I appreciate you all my brothers and sisters, mothers and children, grandparents the disabled and all diverse people of this country for turning up in great numbers.” He ended up his speech by employing everyone to hold hands together and move forward. “Let me end by saying let us hold each other’s hand and move forward together. We can jointly and whilst holding hands together climb even the highest mountain without being daunted by its summit.” He said.

EDITORIAL COMMENT
INDEED it is that time of the year; as usual the government continues to buy maize through its agency (FRA). Like always, the buying of maize by the Food Reserve Agency brings excitement especially on the part of the farmers whose wallets experience a refill at least once a year. However, whichever language one would use, the buying and selling of maize by FRA has not been exciting on the part of government and FRA as a business.
THE ‘profit margins’ Zambia has continued to make in relation to FRA as a government business is somewhat a matter that needs serious attention for sound and better outcomes. It is not a strange term to hear such things as profit and loss in business. In general terms, it is common sense to say that people get into business not to make losses but profits.
ON the contrary, for many years now, the Food Reserve Agency has continued to make losses on the expense of government funding despite its mandate on a bigger picture to be a hub of food security for the nation. Not only for business executives, it is a common denominator even to a layman that there is no business in the history of man-kind established to be making losses but that every business is meant to generate profits for continuity and progression. If truth be told, FRA is one such a 'sector' which has the capacity to create massive employments especially for the young people.
UNDENIABLY if the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) can be utilized on the view to making profits, Zambia can have a situation where thousands of people can be employed across the country. The millions that are wasted every year if invested on the view to reaping the benefit of doing business would mean a bright future for the majority Zambians who strive always with a smile just to feed their empty bellies. It is a sad fact that, despite the government efforts in making sure that the people of Zambia have access to affordable Mealie Meal; the FRA has suffered a continued monopoly perpetuated by the so called millers making it difficult for an ordinary Zambian to access this essential commodity. In any case, Zambia's poor economic performance on a general view is the result of the country through its agencies running the affairs of this country on principles of charity. Zambia as a country in moving forward would come about when things begin to operate on policies that are grounded on business principles.
One of the ways that can be done to really turn FRA into a profitable government agency is by funding it once and for all. This funding should then be invested in farm blocks across the country. These farm blocks would also mean a massive employment for the youths especially those who have had no opportunity to go through formal training.
IF the economy is to be brought to a status where each individual citizen reap the benefit of the natural resources, there is need to run this country on business oriented principles. There is need for policies that are targeted at imploring the best formula to turn around the economy to the desired point grounded on the ability to use the natural resources. There is indeed need on the part of leaders to negotiate the suitable tax solutions for local and international trade. There is need to fund the Food Reserve Agency once and for all. ‘Just thinking!’

South Africa's ANC faces worst election losses since apartheid.

South Africa’s ANC was on track for its worst electoral performance since the end of apartheid on Friday as voters vented anger about high unemployment and corruption in municipal elections that herald a sea change in politics and society.

The African National Congress has ruled virtually unopposed since it ended white-minority rule in 1994 with Nelson Mandela at its helm, but has lost support - particularly in cities - among voters who feel their lives have not improved and accuse President Jacob Zuma of mismanaging the economy.

The ANC was still leading in the overall count in the nationwide municipal vote, with 95 percent of ballots counted. But it lost to the main opposition Democratic Alliance (DA) in the municipality of Nelson Mandela Bay, which includes the city of Port Elizabeth, and was trailing in Tshwane, home to the capital Pretoria.

Since the end of apartheid, the ANC had enjoyed an iron electoral grip on these areas, as well as on the economic hub of Johannesburg - where it held just a narrow lead on Friday.

Now, no party looks likely to win a majority in these three urban centres, ushering in a new era of coalition politics as South Africa shifts from what has effectively been a one-party system in the period immediately post-apartheid.

“The ANC has lost significant support [to the DA] in these areas because ordinary people who have long been loyal to the ANC feel that the party has failed to live up to its election promise to improve life for everyone ,” FRANCE 24’s South Africa correspondent Ayesha Ismail said.

This shift reshapes the political landscape in South Africa ahead of the 2019 national election, and may also embolden Zuma’s rivals within the ANC to challenge him.

The DA has retained control of Cape Town, which it has held since 2006.

The ANC chief whip, Jackson Mthembu, said the losses across the country were “a worrying trend” for the ruling party and would prompt soul-searching. “We need to have a serious introspection, and that is what we will do.”

The election also represents a political renaissance for the DA, which last year elected its first black leader, Mmusi Maimane, as part of its efforts to shake off its image as a party that mainly serves white interests.

THAILAND ROCKED BY 11 BOMBS IN ONE DAY.

Five provinces in Thailand have been hit by 11 bombings in less than a day, authorities say.

At least four Thai nationals have been killed and about 36 others were injured, including 10 foreigners, according to Anurak Amornpetchsathaporn with the Ministry of Public Health.
No one has claimed responsibility for the blasts, and it's not clear if the bombings are connected.
Thai police say there's no evidence the attacks are related to international terrorism.
"These incidents are different from the usual terrorism acts. They are more local sabotage on certain locations and provinces," Deputy Police Spokesman Maj. Gen. Piyapan Pingmuang said at a news conference Friday.
Political unrest has in recent years roiled Thailand, resulting at times in protests. The series of blasts comes days before the first anniversary of the Erawan Shrine bombing, which killed 20 people, and five days after the country voted on a new constitution.
Pingmuang said the explosions are not linked to the Erawan bombing.

Lionel Messi: Argentina striker reverses decision to retire from national team.

Lionel Messi has been named in Argentina's World Cup qualifiers squad, less than two months after retiring from international football.

Messi, 29, quit after Argentina's Copa America final defeat by Chile in June.

But in a statement reported by media in Argentina, the Barcelona striker said he made the U-turn for the "love of the country" and "to help from within."

Argentina play qualifiers against Uruguay and Venezeula at the beginning of September.

Messi missed in the penalty shootout defeat by Chile, as Argentina lost a fourth major final in nine years.

"A lot of things went through my mind on the night of the final and I gave serious thought to quitting, but my love for my country and this shirt is too great," Argentina's all-time record goalscorer is reported as saying.

"We need to fix many things in Argentinian football, but I prefer to do this from inside and not criticise from outside."

Messi's only major international honour is Olympic gold at the 2008 Games in Beijing.

As well as losing two Copa America finals on penalties to Chile, he was in the Argentina side beaten 1-0 by Germany in the 2014 World Cup final.

The forward, who was been awarded the Ballon d'Or for the world's best player five times, was also on the losing side against Brazil in the 2007 Copa America final.

Messi is named in new coach Edgardo Bauza's squad alongside Manchester City trio Sergio Aguero, Pablo Zabaleta and Nicolas Otamendi, Manchester United pair Sergio Romero and Marcos Rojo and Ramiro Funes Mori of Everton.

Tottenham's Erik Lamela made it seven Premier League players in total, with Messi's Barcelona team-mate Javier Mascherano also among the 27-man squad.

WE HAVE VOTED BUT GOD HAS THE FINAL ANSWER.
IS IT PRESIDENT EDGAR OR PRESIDENT HH: NTALASHA CHISHA (Empowerment Mandate)
We have voted, the lot has been casted. Is it Barsabas or Matthias.
For it is Written;
And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen, And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles. Acts 1:24,26
Its God who elects leaders. Not Man. He knows what the next 5 years will be all about. Some one Suitable for the tasks ahead will be picked.
Is it David or Eliab?
For it is Written;
But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart. 1 Samuel 16:7
God looks at the heart. One whose heart will be right before God will emerge Victorious. Our voting not withstanding. So like in old times because He does not change God will show Himself strong again. So cheer up, be relaxed God is in control.
Hear this;
For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south.
But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.
Psalm 75:6-7
FATHER THANK YOU FOR CHOOSING A LEADER AFTER YOUR OWN HEART TO RULE OVER THIS NATION. LORD WE ARE GRATEFUL...
BURST IN THANKSGIVING AND GODS NAME WILL BE GLORIFIED. PRAY...
