MANYINGA TOWN COUNCIL CHAIRPERSON URGES FAMERS TO ADAPT TO CLIMATE CHANGE FARMING ACTIVITIES.

Manyinga town council chairperson Henry Sakuwaha has implored farmers to adapt climate change farming measures to improve the food production in the district.

In a speech read on his behalf by Kashinakaji ward councilor Hon Nelcoal Bulaya during an Agricultural block show held in Chifuwe North ward, Mr Sakuwaha said that this year's theme "adapting to climate change" is in line with Government's vision towards addressing effects affecting farmers in the country.

His worship further said that Government through the ministry of Agriculture has introduced various initiatives such as the food and cash for work programs, agricultural credit window, mechanized farming systems and early distribution of farming inputs to mitigate the effects of climate change among farmers in district.

Mr Sakuwaha also called on farmers to employ post harvest technics to preserve the mature crops from the continuous rainfall pattern in some areas.

He urged farmers to utilize government's marketing platforms by selling their farming produce to the Food Reserve Agency(FRA).

And speaking earlier at the same event Cooperative Agricultural show chairperson Mr Robert Kapende expressed gratitude to Government under the leadership of president Hakainde Hichilema for supporting farmers with diversified agricultural initiatives that have positively uplifted food production in the district.

Mr Kapende noted that agricultural show ceremonies are vital as they bring Government institutions, stakeholders and farmers from various communities to share farming knowledge to uplift the farming activities.

He further called on Government to consider increasing the number of farming inputs under the farmer input support program(FISP).

THE NEXT BIG WHISTLE, STEVEN KAUNDA KAPITA'S RISE IN ZAMBIAN FOOTBALL OFFICIATING.

In the heart of Zambia's North Western Province, a 17-year-old prodigy from Manyinga district has football enthusiasts abuzz with excitement.

Born in 2008, Steven K Kapita is a Grade 11 student at Loloma Secondary School who has remarkably grasped the rules and regulations of football.

This young talent has demonstrated exceptional professionalism on the pitch, earning him the nickname " in Manual" due to his consistently accurate decisions during matches.

Steven's impressive officiating skills have not gone unnoticed, as he currently oversees games in the FAZ North Western Province Division Two and Three Zone B leagues.

His potential is undeniable, and many believe he is the next big thing in Zambian football officiating.

Given his remarkable talent, we urge the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) in North Western Province to recognize and nurture Steven's skills.

By providing him with opportunities to officiate bigger matches, FAZ can help him gain invaluable experience and exposure.

This support would not only enhance Steven's abilities but also contribute to the growth of football in Zambia.

MANYINGA DISTRICT CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL DAY OF FORESTS.

By Joseph Kamawu

Manyinga District in North-Western Province, Zambia, joined the global community in commemorating International Day of Forests (IDF) today at Chiveva Primary School.

Although the United Nations General Assembly declared March 21 as the official IDF in 2012, the district celebrated it today.

Speaking during the event, Manyinga District Commissioner, Ms. Brenda Chipango Mukwakwa, said that the day is crucial in highlighting the significance of forests in supporting livelihoods, food security, and nutrition.

Ms. Mukwakwa emphasized that forests play a vital role in mitigating climate change by restoring carbon and supporting soil fertility, water sources, and biodiversity.

She noted that this year's IDF theme, "Forests and Food," is particularly relevant given the prolonged dry spell experienced in the 2023-2024 farming season, which led to food insecurity in the country.

The commissioner urged local communities to refrain from cutting down trees, especially during caterpillar harvesting, and instead adopt sustainable forest management practices.

Earlier, Manyinga District Forestry Officer, Shadrick Bwalya, echoed Ms. Mukwakwa's sentiments, stressing the importance of trees in supporting people's livelihoods.

Mr Bwalya called on both the community and his office to take proactive roles in planting back trees and promoting sustainable forest management.

And Loloma Ward Councillor who is also Manyinga Town Council Deputy Chairperson, Ms. Doris Ding'ombi, has expressed her gratitude to the organizers for hosting the International Day of Forests event in her ward.

Ms Ding'ombi emphasized the significance of this global celebration, stating that it raises awareness about the vital importance of trees and encourages community participation in tree-planting initiatives.

She remarks underscored the need for collective action in preserving forests and promoting sustainable environmental practices.

In a show of appreciation, Senior Chief Sikufele's Chiefdom Headman, Vilembuluka, thanked the government for initiating the Plant a Tree program, which aims to beautify surroundings and promote environmental conservation.
